Broadleaf Tree Planting Event Marks Commitment to Environmental Sustainability

Broadleaf’s Tree Planting Event in Yamanashi

On May 18, 2025, Broadleaf Inc., headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo, will host a significant tree planting event at 'Broadleaf Forest.' This initiative is part of their 'Grow Leaf Project,' established in collaboration with the certified NPO Environmental Relations Research Institute at 'Present Tree in Fuefuki Ashikawa.' Last year, they successfully planted 277 saplings of indigenous hardwood species, including Mizunara, Yamazakura, and Bunashimeji alongside partner companies.

This year, the company aims to continue its ecological efforts by planting additional saplings, reaching a target of over 500 trees in two consecutive years. The event will feature an opening ceremony led by Masaki Yamashita, the Mayor of Fuefuki City, featuring a commemorative planting ceremony to mark this important occasion.

About 'Broadleaf Forest' in Fuefuki Ashikawa

The 'Broadleaf Forest,' located within the 'Present Tree in Fuefuki Ashikawa,' is an integral component of Broadleaf's company-supported environmental conservation activities. The 'Grow Leaf Project' initiated last year emphasizes the importance of sustainability and community involvement in environmental initiatives.

As the first tree planting at 'Broadleaf Forest' comes to a close, the company plans to maintain ongoing care for the newly planted trees, striving towards the restoration of vibrant satoyama landscapes.

In past years, similar initiatives have taken place, such as at 'Shiki no Mori' in Kofu City, where, with the support of participating companies, 245 saplings were planted between 2008 and 2009 as part of earlier environmental efforts.

Expanding the 'Grow Leaf Project'

The 'Grow Leaf Project,' which began in 2008, aims to fulfill Broadleaf's social responsibilities and embody the company's commitment to earth-friendly practices. Through collaboration with partner companies and the support of the Environmental Relations Research Institute, the project has seen the planting of 1,417 trees as of March 2024. Additionally, they conduct online workshops focused on creating bonsai using saplings grown by individuals with disabilities in collaboration with social welfare organizations.

Broadleaf's commitment to community and environmental welfare has not gone unnoticed, as they were awarded the 'Corporate Award' in the 2025 Environmental Preservation Activities commendation by Shinagawa City, recognizing their outstanding contributions to environmental protection.

Understanding Present Tree

The 'Present Tree' initiative is operated by the certified NPO Environmental Relations Research Institute. Launched in January 2005, this project connects forest regeneration with community revitalization efforts. As urban areas face challenges such as an aging population and declining birthrates, 'Present Tree' engages individuals in growing trees in areas such as abandoned sites and disaster-affected forests. Community members can become caretakers of these trees, fostering connections while nurturing their significant memorial trees over a 10-year period, benefiting both the forests and the surrounding communities.
