John Grady Steps in as Executive Director of ADISA, Ushering in a New Era of Leadership

ADISA Welcomes John Grady as Executive Director

On June 18, 2025, ADISA, the leading trade association for the alternative investments sector in the United States, officially appointed John Grady as its new executive director. This significant transition comes as former executive John Harrison retires after over a decade of service, leaving behind a strong foundation for Grady to build upon.

Grady has deep roots within ADISA, having served on the board since 2016, where he was integral to the organization’s initiatives and strategic direction. His career spans over thirty years in investment management, which has equipped him with the insights necessary to guide ADISA into its next phase.

In his first statement as executive director, Grady expressed gratitude to Harrison, acknowledging his predecessor's instrumental role in shaping ADISA. "I am honored to take on this position and continue the essential work that ADISA accomplishes in the alternative investments space," Grady remarked. He emphasized his commitment to collaboration with the board and staff, aiming to promote education, advocacy, and superior networking opportunities for ADISA’s members.

Grady's leadership capabilities have already been proven during his tenure as board president, a role he first assumed in 2017 and where he was notably re-elected in 2025. His long-standing involvement with the association's legislative and regulatory committee further underscores his dedication and knowledge of the industry, making him a respected figure among peers and members alike.

In stepping into the role of executive director, Grady resigns as board president, passing the role to Matthew (Matt) Iak. Iak, the President-Elect and currently the executive vice president at the U.S. Energy Development Corporation, will assume the presidency for the remainder of 2025 and continue his term into 2026. Iak, who has held a leadership position in his company for over two decades, is also a key player on ADISA's board since 2021 and has raised significant capital, marking him as an influential figure in the alternative investment arena.

Harrison, who led ADISA since 2012, reflected on the organization’s growth during his tenure, which included an expansion in membership, enhanced educational offerings, and stronger advocacy efforts. His commitment was recognized when he received ADISA's prestigious ACE Award in 2023, a testament to his valuable contributions to the industry.

Grady is currently the general counsel for ABR Dynamic Funds, giving him a wealth of experience managing investments across private funds, mutual funds, and other alternative assets. His previous roles at prominent firms such as DLA Piper LLP and Practus LLP highlight his extensive knowledge and expertise in the financial and investment sectors.

As the new executive director, Grady carries a weighty responsibility, but he is not without support. With Iak now at the helm as president, both leaders pledged to further ADISA's mission of fostering a robust alternative investment community. Iak also echoed confidence in Grady’s leadership, indicating their combined efforts would bring about progressive changes and advancements for the association.

ADISA, established in 2003, plays a pivotal role in the alternative investment landscape, representing members engaged in various investment avenues including non-traded real estate investment trusts, business development companies, and many others. With nearly 5,000 members and over 220,000 professionals served, ADISA is positioned as a respected leader in advocacy and education within the industry.

The transition from Harrison to Grady marks not just a change in leadership, but a renewal of commitment towards maintaining a vibrant, engaged alternative investments community. As ADISA moves forward with Grady and Iak at the forefront, the potential for innovation and growth within the association is promising, reinforcing its vital importance in the financial landscape.
