6th Driver Contest by Palline: A Celebration of Safety and Skill

On November 8, Palline held its highly anticipated 6th Driver Contest in Kanagawa, showcasing the exceptional driving skills of 42 drivers from the Pal System group. Organized by Palline Co., Ltd, a logistics company based in Koto, Tokyo, this event not only emphasized safe and accurate driving but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and friendly competition among participants.

The Structure of the Contest

The competition was divided into two main segments: the “Life Logistics Division” and the “Core Transportation Division.” Each of the 14 business offices from Tokyo, Kanagawa, and Shizuoka sent two drivers and a coach to represent their respective teams. Collectively, they aimed for both overall victory and individual accolades. The event attracted a remarkable audience of around 240, consisting of colleagues and family members who came to cheer for the contestants.

Exciting Challenges: Driving Courses and Tactics

Participants engaged in two main types of competitions: the “Driving Course” and the “Tako-Tsubo Challenge.” The Driving Course involved navigating through a slalom and executing parking maneuvers without any contact or obstacles, which demonstrated both precision and safety. Judges scored each performance based on these critical driving competencies. In contrast, the Tako-Tsubo Challenge tested drivers’ agility as they competed to maneuver their trucks into and out of a tightly confined space, adding an element of excitement with its tournament format.

A Surprise Victory by a Female Duo

In an impressive turn of events, the overall championship was secured by a team from the Akishima Center, consisting of two female drivers. Their victory was celebrated, with Coach Suzuki Kaname expressing immense pride: “Leading up to the contest, the athletes and I practiced diligently every week after work, and I’m thrilled to see our hard work pay off.”

On the individual front, the coveted President’s Award for the Life Logistics Division was awarded to Mai Higa from the same center, while Shinichi Tokita from the Sagami office took home the award for the Core Transportation Division. President Yokoyama presented the awards, urging competitors to continue spreading safe driving techniques beyond the contest.

As the competition unfolded, the atmosphere was electric. Attendees witnessed the intensity of the Tako-Tsubo Challenge, with large crowds cheering on the participants as they executed their maneuvers.
