TDU's D-SciTech Program: Nurturing Future Engineers in 2026
The D-SciTech Program, initiated by Tokyo Denki University, marks its fourth year in 2026, continuing to inspire elementary school students with hands-on workshops aimed at nurturing a passion for science and future engineering careers. This initiative invites young learners to engage actively in science and engineering, enhancing their interest in these fields.
From June to September 2026, the program will feature seven workshops, expanding its reach by hosting five at the Tokyo Chiyoda Campus and one each at the Saitama Hachiyama Campus and the Tokyo Denki University Middle and High School. These workshops welcome students in grades 3 to 6, as well as middle school students in grades 1 to 3. Each session aims not only to impart knowledge but also to provide practical experience in understanding various scientific principles through hands-on activities.
Renowned companies are collaborating to provide expert instruction, ensuring that students learn advanced and specialized skills. Key contributors such as Nissan Motor Co. and Kato Manufacturing Co. will lead sessions focusing on relevant and practical aspects of engineering. The curriculum covers topics like the mechanics of electric vehicles, principles of chromatography, and experiential learning through creating mini four-wheel drive cars and developing safety maps for their local areas using GIS software.
Workshop Schedule and Highlights
The 2026 program includes various engaging workshops that promise to captivate young minds:
- - June 20: Create a Safety Map Using GIS - Discover the world of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) while designing a safety map with the support of ESRI Japan.
- - June 27: Explore Colors in Science - Unravel the mysteries of colors through exciting experiments at the Tokyo Chiyoda Campus.
- - July 4: Learn About Crane Trucks - Understand the power of hydraulics and electric drive systems through a collaborative session with Kato Manufacturing.
- - July 18: Dive into the World of Electric Vehicles - Participate in an interactive session with Nissan Motor Co. where students will charge and race model electric cars.
- - July 28: Experience Mini Four-Wheel Drive Cars - Get hands-on with JCOM Marketing to design and race mini four-wheel-drive cars.
- - August 1: Discover the Wonders of Electricity - Learn about static electricity and discharge plasma at the Saitama Hachiyama Campus with Kasuga Electric.
- - September 19: Master the Power of Air - Engage in a session with Nitto Kohki to learn about air pressure and tackle interactive puzzles.
As seats fill quickly for these workshops, the strong interest reflects the community's enthusiasm for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education. The aim is long-term engagement, allowing students to embrace the idea of becoming the engineers of the future while cultivating a lifelong love of science.
Community Engagement and Free Participation
Tokyo Denki University's commitment to community engagement shines through the D-SciTech Program, which is free of charge for all participants. This initiative exemplifies the university's dedication to fostering a locally rooted educational environment in collaboration with local administrations and organizations in Adachi and Soka cities.
Moreover, the D-SciTech Program strongly emphasizes not just learning but also the joy of 'making things' and asking critical questions such as 'why?' and 'how?'. The university hosts numerous workshops, including electronics and science experiment classes, to enrich students’ educational experiences and encourage exploration.
Through these efforts, the D-SciTech Program aims to inspire a new generation of engineers, equipping them with both knowledge and essential practical skills for the future, ensuring they are well-prepared to contribute to technological advancements in society.
Stay tuned for more details about this exciting program, as registrations will open soon, and be prepared for a thrilling journey into the world of engineering and science!
