The Allure of Herbs: Shikinokaori Rose Garden Herb Fair 2024
From June 7th to June 29th, 2024, the Shikinokaori Rose Garden in Nerima, Tokyo, will host its first-ever Herb Fair, showcasing over 180 varieties of herbs in their prime. Organized by Daiichi Engei Co., Ltd., a leading floral and greenery business in Japan, the event promises a delightful experience for all senses.
A Flourishing Garden of Herbs
The herb garden at Shikinokaori is not just about visual beauty; it’s an immersive experience. Visitors will find themselves surrounded by an array of herbs, which will be hitting their peak attraction from late May. The garden is thoughtfully divided into themed areas: the Kitchen Garden, Tea Garden, and Potpourri Garden, allowing visitors to explore herbs used in cooking, aromatic teas, and fragrant potpourris. Each section features unique herbs, including less common varieties alongside well-loved favorites, offering a diverse botanical experience.
While visitors stroll through the gardens, they can touch the different textures of leaves and inhale the varying scents, creating a soothing and therapeutic environment. With delicate flowers and intriguing foliage, the herb garden promises a refreshing escape from the daily hustle.
Vibrant Blooms of Early Summer
Alongside the herbs, the garden is adorned with blooming hydrangeas and vibrant lilies. This year, visitors can enjoy a stunning display of mountain hydrangeas known for their intricate beauty and large, striking American lilies. The dynamic colors and enchanting fragrances will fill the garden, inviting guests to appreciate nature's artistry.
Visitors can enjoy this celestial floral showcase, as the different species bloom at varying rates throughout the season. This assures a prolonged enjoyment of color and scent, making every visit unique.
Engaging Workshops and Events
The Herb Fair also offers a range of hands-on workshops and activities. Guests can participate in crafting herb bouquets using freshly picked herbs, guided by professional gardeners from Daiichi Engei. These immersive experiences allow visitors to create beautiful arrangements while enjoying the refreshing scents.
One of the highlights is the workshop focused on making deodorant sprays using natural herb essences. This engaging session aims to prepare attendees for the sweltering summer ahead. Additionally, participants can join guided herb garden tours, led by herb experts such as Hiroko Nagata, where they can learn practical tips for incorporating herbs into their daily lives.
To top off the experience, the Shikinokaori Café will open exclusively on weekends throughout June. This pop-up venture will feature delightful herbal teas and other seasonal refreshments, including the unique butterfly pea tea, which transforms into a vibrant pink when lemon is added.
