The Dyrt's 2026 Report Reveals Campers Embrace AI and Modern Tech

The Dyrt's 2026 Camping Report: Embracing AI and Technology

In a significant shift within the camping community, the latest findings from The Dyrt, the largest camping and RVing app in the U.S., reveal that 33.6% of campers now trust artificial intelligence (AI) to recommend campgrounds. This data originates from their comprehensive 2026 Camping Report, which surveyed thousands of users from The Dyrt’s extensive community. This trust reflects a broader acceptance of technology among outdoor enthusiasts, aligning with findings from a recent GuideGeek survey that highlighted AI’s most trusted role in travel inquiries compared to various other sectors, such as work and healthcare.

Interestingly, despite this notable confidence in AI, only 10.3% of campers reported having actually utilized AI to plan their trips. However, another 9.7% indicated intentions to explore AI for camping trip planning in 2026. This gap between trust and usage underscores the potential for growth in technology adoption among campers, as noted by The Dyrt's CEO, Kevin Long. “The fact that a third of campers express trust in AI for planning, yet only a fraction have tried it, points to a vast market opportunity in camping technology and tools. With millions of reviews and tips from over 50,000 campgrounds, The Dyrt has a unique advantage in the evolving landscape of AI integration,” he remarked.

While many traditionalists prefer the simplicity of camping without modern distractions, a substantial number of campers are eager to leverage newer technologies to enhance their experiences. Over half of survey respondents indicated interest in satellite internet solutions such as Starlink in the coming year. Notably, one in three campers utilized satellite internet in 2025, representing growth from one in four the previous year. This trend reflects a fusion of remote work and camping, with more than 25% of participants reporting they worked from a campsite in 2025.

The founder of The Dyrt, Sarah Smith, quoted in the report, emphasized the freeing experience of blending work and leisure while being outdoors. “To work from anywhere—be it The Rockies, a Florida beach, or the Upper Peninsula—is incredibly liberating,” she stated. “It’s remarkable to witness technology, nature, productivity, and relaxation coexisting at a campsite. This innovative synergy enables us at The Dyrt to expand and lead in the camping space like never before.”

The 2026 Camping Report, sponsored by Toyota Trucks, provides invaluable insights into how technology is shaping outdoor recreation and will continue to evolve as camping practices change.
