Joint Industry Initiative Boosts Wind and Solar Energy Development Worldwide
Joint Industry Initiative Enhancing Renewable Energy
In a groundbreaking collaboration, the Chinese Energy Research Society, the Global Solar Council (GSC), and Huawei Digital Power held the Global Forum on Low-Carbon Industry during the International Digital Energy Expo (IDEE) 2025. This forum focused on the development of an energy network adaptable to various scenarios, further promoting wind and solar energy as primary energy sources.
A Collective Drive Towards Renewable Energy
At the core of this initiative is the aim to eliminate global energy disparities through the incremental implementation of a robust energy network that ensures widespread access to eco-friendly and stable energy. The forum gathered leaders from government energy departments, grid companies, utilities, standardization organizations, and industry associations from around the globe, creating a collaborative environment to discuss the current state and future prospects of the renewable energy sector.
Developing a Comprehensive Energy Network
During the discussion, industry experts outlined a vision for constructing a multifaceted energy network that meets all potential scenarios worldwide. They emphasized the necessity for technologies that can support this ambition and enhance the integration of renewable resources into the energy grid efficiently. The initiative aims to ensure sustainable advancements in wind and solar energy, rallying support for these renewable sources as pivotal players in the energy market.
Insights from Industry Leaders
During the inaugural speech, Hou Jinlong, the Director of Huawei's Board and President of Huawei Digital Power, highlighted that energy storage will see remarkable growth and strong integration with wind and solar resources. He pointed out that innovative technologies in network formation, artificial intelligence, and high-quality energy-efficient products throughout their lifecycle are crucial for this progression. "The energy network strategy that accommodates all possibilities will accelerate the development of these sources as fundamental energy providers," he remarked.
Prominent figures, such as Xiang Haiping, Chief Expert at the Chinese Energy Research Society, discussed the current status and predicted direction of energy transformation and the growth of the energy sector in China. Meanwhile, Andrés Rebolledo, Executive Secretary of the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE), revealed the process of transforming conventional energy networks into smart, reliable systems based on experiences from Latin America.
Ensuring Future Stability in the Energy Grid
Experts shared their insights regarding the importance of retaining systemic inertia in the energy grid. Peter Wall, Director of Energy Network Research at BloombergNEF, noted that as the share of renewable energy increases, there is a rapid decrease in system inertia. Thus, synchronous condensers and energy storage systems (ESS) are becoming vital technologies that provide necessary inertia support.
The dialogue also touched on compliance with international standards and the enhancement of new energy system capabilities, highlighting the indispensable role of modern energy systems in achieving carbon neutrality.
Presenting Innovative Solutions
Steven Zhou, president of Huawei's Smart Photovoltaic Products and Energy Storage Systems division, shared solutions and applications regarding energy network formation across various scenarios, drawing on Huawei's extensive experience with digital technologies and network development. Other notable presentations included insights from Dennis B. Jordan, CEO of MGEN Renewable Energy, Inc., who showcased a massive integrated photovoltaic project in the Philippines combining 3.5 GW of photovoltaic energy and a 4.5 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
Furthermore, speakers like Urban Windelen, Executive Director of the German Association of Energy Storage Systems, provided valuable lessons from Germany's energy market, underscoring the country's pivotal role in Europe's energy sector.
Towards a More Sustainable Energy Future
This initiative serves as a crucial stepping stone in redefining how energy is generated, distributed, and consumed globally. By fostering collaborations and establishing high-quality standards in renewable energy applications, attendees recognized the potential to mitigate global energy inequality, ensuring everyone has access to ecological, stable, and affordable energy solutions. Through continued innovation and collaboration, this initiative aims to lay the groundwork for a technologically advanced and sustainable future in renewable energy.
