Geeks Group Achieves Charity Walking Milestone
In an inspiring initiative aimed at promoting health and social responsibility, Geeks Group completed its charity walking event in November 2025, raising an impressive ¥144,892 (around $1,000) for the Japanese Red Cross. This unique event, titled the "Autumn Walking Event 2025," encouraged members to walk for a cause by donating ¥1 for every 200 steps taken. Over the course of a month, participants logged a staggering total of 28,978,432 steps, equating to more than half the circumference of the Earth.
Background of the Initiative
As part of its broader strategy to promote a healthy workplace environment, Geeks Group believes that the mental and physical well-being of its members and their families is crucial for sustainable business growth. With various health risks associated with changes in life stages, the company is committed to fostering an environment where members can thrive and perform at their best.
Since 2023, the company has actively participated in the "Pep Walking" event hosted by the Kanto IT Software Health Insurance Union, attracting enthusiastic volunteers each time. The integration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into this latest walking event aimed to further motivate employees, ultimately resulting in a significant turnout with over 100 participants.
Through this initiative, the philosophy of "your steps can help someone else" encouraged many to adopt a regular exercise routine while simultaneously raising awareness of social issues. Effective communication blossomed as members shared their walking progress through internal chat channels, sparking camaraderie among the participants who walked not only for personal health but also for a meaningful cause.
Achievements and Results
The event surpassed its initial goal of 20 million steps, ultimately recording a breathtaking total of 28,978,432 steps, illustrating the strong commitment and engagement from the team. The total donations raised were transferred to the Japanese Red Cross in December 2025 to assist with various humanitarian efforts including distributing blankets, drinking water, and medical supplies during disasters.
Feedback from participants highlighted the benefits gained from the event: "This was a great way to combat the sedentary lifestyle during remote work," shared one member. Another noted, "Knowing that my walking has a positive impact on someone else kept my motivation high," while additional participants appreciated the opportunity to connect with colleagues from different departments.
Looking to the future, the Geeks Group is committed to continuing this initiative with plans to achieve a cumulative donation of ¥200,000 (around $2,000) in spring 2026. Each member is encouraged to engage in this dual focus on health and social contribution, aligning with the company’s mission to be the "most inspiring company of the 21st century" through its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives.
