YUGEN Gallery FUKUOKA's Charity Donation for Noto Peninsula Earthquake Relief Efforts

YUGEN Gallery FUKUOKA's Contribution to Noto Peninsula Earthquake Relief

YUGEN Gallery FUKUOKA, located in the heart of Fukuoka, has demonstrated its commitment to community support through art. From March 8 to March 23, 2025, the gallery hosted a special charity exhibition titled "Beauty Resides Even in Decay" in collaboration with renowned photographer Mikio Hasui and the Kinzangama kiln, focusing on raising funds for the victims of the Noto Peninsula earthquake. The exhibition proved to be more than just an artistic endeavor; it was a beacon of hope, raising a significant total of 162,000 yen which has now been donated to the Hokuriku Mirai Foundation's "Noto Together Fund."

The total amount collected from the charity exhibition and sales has been officially contributed as of April 8, 2025. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all who participated and contributed to this noble cause. The gallery extends its prayers and thoughts to those affected by the disaster, wishing for their swift recovery.

About the Exhibition: "Beauty Resides Even in Decay"

The exhibition was a unique collaboration showcasing the delicate art of Kutani porcelain from the Kinzangama kiln, which boasts a history of over 110 years in Koma City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Celebrated as a significant part of Japan's cultural heritage, the kiln has faced devastating losses due to the recent earthquake, with many priceless pieces damaged or destroyed. The exhibit served as a powerful reminder of beauty in vulnerability, examining the intersection of traditional craftsmanship and the harsh realities of nature.

Photographer Mikio Hasui brought his artistic vision to life through a striking collection of images depicting the broken yet beautiful pieces of Kinzangama ceramics. Each of the 16 carefully captured works illustrated not only the exquisite aesthetic that remains even in destruction but also a deep reverence for the artistry and history embedded in these materials. His perspective shines through in breathtaking detail, evoking strong emotions in viewers and encouraging them to appreciate the fragility and endurance of art and culture.

This exhibition acts as a poignant reminder that even in the face of disaster, the spirit of art cannot be extinguished. The haunting beauty of the damaged pieces, captured within Hasui's photography, offers a narrative of resilience and reflects the ongoing battle for restoration and recovery in the region.

Additionally, the collaborative exhibition will be moving from Fukuoka to Koma City, Ishikawa Prefecture, where a traveling exhibition is scheduled to be held from May 17 to May 31, 2025, at the gallery "MUTAN." This event promises to continue spreading awareness and support for the earthquake relief efforts.
