Nordic Semiconductor Expands nRF54L Series with New Low-Cost Bluetooth SoCs

Nordic Semiconductor Expands nRF54L Series

Nordic Semiconductor, a global leader in low-power wireless communication solutions, is proud to announce the expansion of its nRF54L series. This new addition includes two low-cost Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) System on Chips (SoCs), known as nRF54LS05A and nRF54LS05B. With the introduction of these chips, Nordic aims to cater to a broader range of applications, especially in the development of cost-effective Bluetooth LE products.

The nRF54LS05A and nRF54LS05B are designed to serve as primary wireless SoCs for single-chip systems, or as companion chips in multi-chip systems, ensuring seamless integration with existing products. These SoCs embody the reliable, market-leading technology associated with Nordic’s Bluetooth LE offerings, ensuring developers have access to high-quality connectivity solutions.

Key Features and Applications

Both the nRF54LS05A and nRF54LS05B provide developers with essential characteristics from the nRF54L series, including robust Bluetooth LE connectivity, ultra-low power consumption, and user-friendly software. These features are specifically optimized for developing simple, economical end devices such as sensors, tags, beacons, remote controls, and PC peripherals.

According to Øyvind Strøm, Nordic Semiconductor's executive vice president for short-range devices, "By producing both the nRF54LS05A and nRF54LS05B, we aim to provide developers with a straightforward and reliable starting point. By integrating core features from our standard Bluetooth LE SoCs, along with our easy-to-use software ecosystem, both chips will help level the playing field for those creating low-cost, economic applications."

Expanding Bluetooth Capabilities

Utilizing these basic Bluetooth LE SoCs allows developers to ensure their products benefit from the fully functional, certified BLE stack already utilized in the broader nRF54L series. This integration means developers can expect strong, dependable Bluetooth LE communication backed by Nordic’s long-standing commitment to the Bluetooth standard and the trust of thousands of developers worldwide.

Access to Nordic's mature development ecosystem, including powerful software and tools like the comprehensive nRF Connect SDK, along with extensive documentation and practical online training, accelerates product development timelines and shortens time-to-market. Moreover, services provided through Nordic’s nRF Cloud platform support secure, scalable firmware updates and device management from microcontroller to cloud, enhancing the value of the nRF Connect software development kit by providing a ready-to-use cloud ecosystem that supports scalable product deployment.

Specifications of nRF54LS05A and nRF54LS05B

These SoCs feature improved memory and peripheral capabilities, providing developers with a strong and efficient foundation for product development. Both devices include a 128 MHz Arm® Cortex® M33 processor paired with low-leakage RAM for fast, responsive processing, enabling the creation of compact low-power wireless designs. They are equipped with Nordic’s fourth-generation Bluetooth LE radio, fundamental security features, and compatibility with select SoCs from the same series, allowing for easy scalability.

The nRF54LS05A offers 64 kB of RAM, while the nRF54LS05B has 96 kB of RAM, catering to applications that may require additional memory space. Both devices belong to the nRF54L series, a new generation of ultra-low-power multiprotocol SoCs, featuring a new multiprotocol radio at 2.4 GHz and an MCU based on the Arm® Cortex® M33 architecture. They support multiple wireless protocols, including Bluetooth LE, Matter, Thread, Zigbee, and various 2.4 GHz modes.

With scalable memory options, rich analog-to-digital interfaces, and advanced security measures, the nRF54L series offers the performance and integration required for a broad range of products on a single chip.

Availability

The nRF54LS05A and nRF54LS05B SoCs are available for evaluation and development work now. Production is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2026. Interested parties should contact Nordic's sales department for access to early access programs that include development kits and samples.

Additionally, attendees at Embedded World 2026 in Nuremberg are encouraged to visit Nordic Semiconductor’s booth in Hall 4A, Stand 310 for demonstrations and discussions regarding these new products.
