Kokura Castle in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, is set to unveil a groundbreaking experience with the launch of the XR Escape Game titled "XR Escape Game: Escape from the Flaming Kokura Castle of 1837". This immersive event, which celebrates the 65th anniversary of the castle's reconstruction, blends the rich history of the landmark with cutting-edge XR (extended reality) technology. Scheduled to commence on July 25, 2025, this interactive experience promises to captivate both local and international visitors alike.

The Story Behind the Game

Participants will step into the shoes of a time-traveling adventurer after discovering an important historical document tied to a major fire incident that consumed Kokura Castle. This document holds the spirit of the feudal lord, Tadatomo Ogasawara. Upon interacting with the spirit, players are sucked into a time distortion, finding themselves amidst the flames during the castle's burning in 1837. The goal? Solve six intricate puzzles and escape the fiery confines of Kokura Castle before it's too late!

Pricing Options

• - XR Experience Only: 2,500 JPY (tax included) payable at the venue
• - Kokura Castle Entry Package: 2,800 JPY (tax included) to be purchased at the castle's ticket office
• - Combined Ticket for Two Venues: available for 2,800 JPY on KKday, or 3,000 JPY at the ticket office

Important Restrictions

While we encourage participation, please note the following age restrictions for the VR content:

• - Children under 7 years old, those shorter than 110 cm, and individuals who cannot walk independently are not permitted to experience the VR content.
• - Children aged 7 to 12 must have a parental consent form signed by an accompanying adult.

A Glimpse into Kokura Castle

Kokura Castle is a historical landmark, built in 1602 by Lord Tadaoki Hosokawa, and it holds the title as the only castle with a donjon in Fukuoka Prefecture. The castle was destroyed by fire in 1837 but was rebuilt in 1959. As of 2024, it will have celebrated the 65th anniversary of its reconstruction. Known for its unique architectural style, the castle features a “Karazukuri” design with its lower levels jutting out more than the upper ones—this rarity makes it a significant site in Japan. Visitors can explore displays about Kokura’s rich history and the families who have ruled it, including the Hosokawa and Ogasawara clans.

Visitors can engage in activities like equestrian archery games, partake in role-playing experiences, and enjoy a variety of hands-on exhibits suitable for all ages. The castle's café, located on the top floor, presents a delightful menu that allows visitors to sip on quality beverages and indulge in sweets while enjoying panoramic views of the city below. To enhance the charm of Kokura Castle, special night openings occur throughout the year. From April to October, it remains open until 8 PM and unti; 7 PM from November to March, providing a magical experience of the castle beautifully illuminated against the night sky.
