Important Reminder for Cook County Property Owners
Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas is reaching out to remind property owners that the deadline for the Second Installment of their property tax bills for the year 2025 is fast approaching. The due date is set for
Thursday, October 1, 2026. This timely announcement serves as a crucial reminder for taxpayers to ensure their payments are processed before the deadline to avoid any penalties.
In mid-August, the Treasurer’s Office made available nearly
1.8 million property tax bills online at
cookcountytreasurer.com and also mailed printed copies to taxpayers in early September. This initiative aims to enhance accessibility for property owners who may need the documentation to fully understand their tax obligations.
Payment Options Available for Taxpayers
For those who may encounter challenges in paying the full amount, the Treasurer’s Office accepts
partial payments. As stipulated by state law, any balance that remains after the October 1 deadline will incur a penalty of
0.75% per month. This penalty is a reduction from the previous rate of 1.5% per month, a legislative change that was supported by Pappas to ease the financial burden on Cook County residents.
To facilitate payment, the Treasurer’s Office offers a streamlined process on their official site:
