Continuous Emergency Support for Gaza
International cooperation NGO PARCIC, based in Chiyoda, Tokyo, has launched a campaign to provide ongoing support to the people of Gaza who have faced devastating conditions since October 2023. The "Gaza Emergency Support Partners Campaign" is designed to help connect lives through the distribution of sanitary supplies, nutritional support for children, and home gardening initiatives, relying on insights from local staff in Gaza.
Key Initiatives of the Campaign
The ongoing support program allows participation starting from just 500 yen per month. PARCIC collaborates with local personnel to roll out various key support efforts:
1.
Distribution of Hygiene Supplies: These include pest control sprays and cleaning tools to enhance living conditions.
2.
Egg Provision through Poultry Farming Support: This initiative collaborates with local farmers to provide eggs, addressing the nutritional needs of malnourished children.
3.
Home Gardening Support through Composting: Aiming to improve food security and environmental conditions, this initiative encourages the use of organic waste for gardening.
4.
Support for Newborns: Distribution of formula and diapers for newborns, addressing the rising challenges faced by families amidst the crisis.
Participants in the campaign receive updates through mailed reports and are invited to attend meetings with representatives from Palestine.
The Current Situation in Gaza
Since October 7, 2023, Gaza has been subjected to widespread destruction, resulting in over 55,000 fatalities and displacing over 90% of its population. The continuing military operations contribute to severe shortages of food, water, and medical supplies, which heighten the risks of starvation and the spread of diseases, including skin infections and respiratory illnesses.
PARCIC’s Commitment to Palestine
PARCIC has been actively engaged in Palestine since the aftermath of the 2014 51-day war. Their efforts have focused on agricultural support for farmers and households, psychological care for children, and ecological restoration projects in the West Bank since 2016.
In the southern Gaza, PARCIC has been supporting female farmer groups in dairy production and helping pastoralists maintain livestock despite the worsening food shortages. Basic living supplies such as food, hygiene items, and clothing are continuously distributed, along with the construction of temporary toilets.
Recent Emergency Aid Efforts
Since October 7, PARCIC has mobilized donations from Japan, implementing various emergency aid operations with support from the Japan Platform. Funds have directly assisted families, providing cash to116 households, food baskets containing fresh produce and poultry to 313 families, and diapers to 135 families. Moreover, nylon sheets for reinforcing tents have been distributed to 120 households, along with water containers to 1,420 families and clothing sets to 940 children, enhancing sanitary conditions within camps.
Support from Local Staff
Currently, four local staff members in Gaza are directly involved in aid efforts, having themselves experienced loss due to the ongoing conflict. They emphasize critical needs within the community:
- - Sahar (Project Manager): Advocates for hygiene supplies to prevent disease spread in overcrowded living conditions.
- - Mahmoud (Livestock Expert): Aims to provide fresh eggs in cooperation with local farmers to combat child malnutrition.
- - Tagreed (Project Officer): Promotes home gardening to improve food security while reducing waste.
- - Abdullah (Agriculture Expert): Seeks to ensure that newborns receive essential formula and diapers.
