KYOCERA AVX Unveils Innovative Two-Piece STRIPT® Crimp Contacts for Diverse Applications

KYOCERA AVX Introduces First Two-Piece STRIPT® Crimp Contacts

KYOCERA AVX, a prominent global leader in the manufacturing of advanced electronic components, recently announced the release of its first two-piece STRIPT® crimp contacts, known as the 9140-000 Series. These innovative components are specifically engineered to meet the needs of various industries by providing compact, user-friendly, and reliable wire-to-board connections.

Design and Features

The new 9140-000 Series is designed for commercial, transportation, consumer, and industrial applications where space is often at a premium. These crimp contacts measure only 4.6mm x 2.4mm x 1.2mm (length x width x height) and have been optimized to work under constraints typical of densely populated circuit boards and small form factors. Moreover, the contacts feature a UL-approved design that omits an insulator, relying instead on the patented poke-home blade contact technology developed by KYOCERA AVX.

One of the standout attributes of the 9140-000 Series crimp contacts is their polarizing design, which effectively prevents mismating during installation. This ensures a high level of reliability for users in demanding environments. With proven poke-home contacts that provide impressive retention force of up to 40N but require only a modest insertion force of 6N, these contacts are user-friendly and efficient. Additionally, they include a latch mechanism that secures high-retention-terminals under shock and vibration conditions, making them ideal for various applications including commercial and transportation lighting.

Target Applications

The target markets for the 9140-000 Series are broad, encompassing areas such as commercial and transportation lighting, home appliances, as well as consumer and industrial electronics. Their versatility and compact nature make them suitable for any scenario where reliability and efficiency are paramount.

The new two-piece crimp contacts are compatible with 22-28 AWG wires, are rated for up to 8A with a voltage capacity of 600VACRMS (or the DC equivalent), and can operate under temperatures ranging from -40°C to +125°C. The design incorporates pure-tin-plated copper alloy receptacles along with tin-over-nickel plated brass blade contacts, ensuring compliance with key industry standards including UL, REACH, and RoHS regulations.

Market Introduction

Nick Lee, the Product Manager for Interconnect at KYOCERA AVX, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, stating, "We developed the new 9140-000 Series to fill a gap in the market, and we’re very excited for their release. They represent our first two-piece crimp contacts in the STRIPT range, characterized by smaller form factors, higher current ratings, and a unique combination of high retention force and low insertion force requirements."

This innovative product release aims to enhance the existing STRIPT portfolio as well as the overall range of wire-to-board connectors offered by KYOCERA AVX. For those interested in placing orders, the 9140-000 Series crimp contacts are available through distributors including Mouser Electronics, DigiKey, and Future Electronics.
