Church of the Highlands Mobilizes Thousands for Serve Day 2025

On July 12, 2025, more than 19,000 volunteers from the Church of the Highlands participated in Serve Day, a significant outreach initiative across Alabama and Georgia. This annual event serves as a testament to the church's commitment to community service, fulfilling both practical and spiritual needs within local areas.

The volunteers engaged in a multitude of projects, comprising home repairs, meal deliveries, hospital visits, and school cleanups, demonstrating the church's dedication to serving its community. Working in partnership with Convoy of Hope, a faith-based humanitarian organization, they distributed groceries and essential items to those facing food insecurity or financial challenges. This year’s partnership resulted in the delivery of more than 500,000 pounds of food and essential supplies to those in need.

Mark Pettus, the lead pastor, expressed the heartfelt mission of the church saying, "We love our communities, and it's an honor to show up, serve people, and let them know they're not alone. Our goal is to make a difference in the world around us, and Serve Day is one tangible way to do that together."

The church implemented a Serve Day app, designed to organize and coordinate volunteer efforts, which proved invaluable. This application not only streamlined project management but also enabled the church to offer this tool to other organizations looking to enhance their outreach endeavors. As a result, more than 90,000 volunteer hours were compiled from the day’s activities.

This year's endeavors saw the completion of over 1,040 local projects, focusing on various community needs, such as caring for elderly neighbors and renovating homes for foster families. The reach of these projects was far and wide, impacting institutions like schools, food banks, shelters, and women's resource centers. In total, Serve Day facilitated the serving of 36,039 meals, reached 143,101 individuals, and created an economic impact of over $2.4 million across participating communities.
