SickKids Foundation's Innovative 'I See You' Experience Blurs Lines Between Theatre and Health

Exploring 'I See You': A Groundbreaking Theatrical Journey

Introduction

The SickKids Foundation in Toronto is embarking on a transformative project titled 'I See You', a one-of-a-kind immersive theatre experience aimed at highlighting the importance of precision child health. This initiative combines the world of medicine with the creativity of the performing arts, set against the backdrop of the historic Hospital for Sick Children.

Bridging Art and Medicine

What if Canadians could not just hear about precision child health, but truly experience it? The 'I See You' production does just that, inviting audiences to step into a world where child health care is tailored to fit the unique needs of each patient. Developed in collaboration with premier Canadian theatre innovators including Outside the March, The Musical Stage Company, and Crow's Theatre, this project transforms hospital spaces into stages where powerful stories unfold.

Michael Rubinoff, the lead producer behind the award-winning musical 'Come From Away', spearheads this venture. With an exceptional team including co-creators Mitchell Cushman, Tanja Jacobs, and Kristen Thomson, the production aims to create an emotional and educational narrative that is as impactful as it is entertaining.

A Unique Immersive Experience

'I See You' runs for three weeks, featuring over 20 performances designed to parallel SickKids Foundation's landmark fundraising campaign. The experience is intended not just as a performance but as an invitation for the audience to engage deeply with the current landscape of pediatric care.

In every performance, nine patient ambassadors from SickKids share their personal stories. These narratives are interwoven with the expertise of clinicians, researchers, artists, and supporters, creating a tapestry of perspectives that underscore the value of personalized care. The hospital operates on three core pillars that define precision child health, which includes:
  • - Diagnosing Faster: Reducing the time taken to achieve a definitive diagnosis for children.
  • - Treating Smarter: Lessening side effects by targeting root causes of issues directly.
  • - Predicting Better: Enhancing foresight regarding health challenges, allowing time for preventive measures.

The Role of Community

The essence of 'I See You' lies in the community involvement and the pivotal role of donors. Their generous support enables SickKids Foundation to innovate and push the boundaries of health care.
