Signify Japan, headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo, has recently established a significant collaboration with Kunieda Co., based in Moriyama, Shiga Prefecture. This partnership involves the installation of 1,197 units of the Philips GreenPower LED Toplighting Force in Kunieda's expansive rose cultivation greenhouse. The goal is to optimize light exposure using efficient LED technology, effectively compensating for the limited sunlight during the winter months and thus ensuring stable crop quality and increased harvests year-round.
Previously, Kunieda utilized high-pressure sodium lamps for supplemental lighting, which, while effective, did not fully meet their efficiency and yield objectives. The choice to switch to the Philips GreenPower LED Toplighting Force was driven by requirements for lower energy consumption and the aspiration for greater productivity. Notably, this LED solution is distinguished by its high output coupled with excellent efficiency.
Upon installation, Signify continues to support Kunieda with yield simulations and tailored crop management strategies, adapting the LED lighting use according to growth conditions and environmental factors. The company emphasizes this commitment to ongoing assistance by not only supplying state-of-the-art lighting but also providing expertise for optimized operation.
Kunieda's President, Masatsugu Kunieda, expressed a strong sentiment regarding the partnership, highlighting that the decision to implement Philips LEDs was largely influenced by their proven track record across Europe, coupled with extensive agricultural insights from Signify. The comprehensive pre-installation support that included lighting design, yield forecasting, and energy cost calculations enabled Kunieda to envision a smooth transition to this more sustainable lighting solution.
Furthermore, Signify has played an active role in Kunieda's annual rose evaluation events by showcasing their LED products, significantly enhancing these events. This ongoing collaboration not only reinforces their dedication to quality and efficiency but instills confidence in the future stability and productivity of Kunieda's rose operations.
About the Philips GreenPower LED Toplighting Force
The Philips GreenPower LED Toplighting Force is specially designed to ensure stability in quality and enhance yield for various crops including tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries, and ornamental plants. The system's capacity for dimming and color adjustment, particularly when used in conjunction with the Philips GrowWise Control System and environmental controls, allows for sophisticated automation that adjusts light intensity based on available sunlight.
A distinctive feature of this LED system is its Quadro Beam technology, which provides a rectangular light distribution. This reduces the number of fixtures needed per cultivation area, contributing to lower installation costs.
