Morehouse College Receives Generous $2 Million Donation from Alumni Siblings

A Generous Legacy: The Crawford Siblings’ Charitable Gift to Morehouse and Spelman Colleges

In a remarkable display of commitment to education and community, Drs. George I. Crawford Jr. and Marcus H. Crawford, alongside their sister Dr. Christine Crawford, have made a substantial donation of $2 million split equally between Morehouse College and Spelman College. This gesture not only reflects their gratitude for the transformative experiences they each had during their time at the institutions but also reinforces their long-term commitment to philanthropy that benefits future generations.

The Crawford brothers, alumni from Morehouse College (class of 1996 and 1998 respectively), emphasized the pivotal role their education played in shaping their career paths. Inspired by their father, Dr. George I. Crawford Sr., a dedicated dentist and 1962 alumnus of Morehouse, both brothers pursued careers in medicine, now making significant contributions in healthcare. Dr. George I. Crawford Jr. operates a MedTech business and has been granted multiple patents for surgical instruments, while Dr. Marcus H. Crawford has enjoyed a successful career as a plastic surgeon, notably founding CPS Infusion, a firm specializing in complex medical treatments.

Dr. Christine Crawford, who graduated from Spelman College in 1994 and holds a doctorate in epidemiology from Harvard University, echoes her brothers' sentiments. A former faculty member at Morehouse and an experienced epidemiologist, Dr. Crawford actively participates on various corporate and non-profit boards, channeling her expertise gained throughout her illustrious career.

The Crawfords’ generous contribution will allocate $1 million to each college, with a portion of the Morehouse gift designated for the Morehouse Endowment Fund. The remainder will support the construction of a new Campus Center aimed at fostering innovation and collaboration among students. This aligns with Morehouse's strategic objectives as it continues to enhance educational experiences and secure the future of its students, the majority of whom come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Dr. F. DuBois Bowman, the 13th President of Morehouse College, expressed profound gratitude for the Crawfords' investment, stating, “Their $1 million investment is a powerful vote of confidence in Morehouse College, fueling our endowment and providing unrestricted support.
