Launch of Joint Research Society to Address AI-Generated Content Safety

Introduction

In a significant step towards addressing the challenges posed by AI-generated content, the AI Governance Association (AIGA) and the Trust and Safety Association (JTSA) have come together to establish the "Research Society for the Safety of AI-Generated Content." This initiative arises from the rapid advancement and societal implementation of AI technology, which, while promoting creativity and efficiency across various domains such as text, images, and videos, has also given rise to new challenges related to safety and trust.

Background and Objectives

The proliferation of generative AI tools has revolutionized many creative processes and transformed business operations. However, this advancement has also led to an increase in the dissemination of misinformation, infringements of rights, and the creation of harmful or inappropriate content. Additionally, verifying the authenticity of AI-generated content has become an increasingly difficult task.

To tackle these pressing issues, the newly launched Research Society aims to foster discussions and research from multiple perspectives, including technology, law, ethics, operations, and social impact. By leveraging the expertise and networks of both AIGA and JTSA, the society aspires to create an inclusive platform where diverse stakeholders—including industry leaders, academics, and experts—can engage in open dialogue.

Activities of the Research Society

Planned Themes

1. Current State of AI-Generated Content and Risk Assessment: The society will analyze domestic and international trends and case studies to identify key safety and reliability issues, with a particular focus on misinformation, including deepfakes.

2. Exploration of Technical Countermeasures: Discussions will cover technologies related to verifying content authenticity, the use of metadata and provenance information, methods for addressing harmful content, and approaches for safety evaluation.

3. Ethical and Legal Considerations: The society will examine ethical implications surrounding AI-generated content, issues related to copyright and portrait rights, and institutional challenges affecting operations.

  • - Promotion of Information Sharing and Dialogue: The society will hold regular meetings and public seminars to facilitate knowledge sharing among stakeholders and enhance societal understanding.
  • - Compilation and Public Disclosure of Research Findings: Findings from discussions within the Research Society are expected to be compiled and reported, providing insights and recommendations.
