ICEYE Expands Satellite Fleet with Four New SAR Satellites

ICEYE, a leading name in the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite domain, has successfully launched and deployed four new satellites into orbit on January 14, 2025. This significant deployment enhances the company’s Earth Observation capabilities and supports additional missions for its customers, including the UAE-based company, Space42.

The launch took place from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, USA, as part of the Transporter-12 Rideshare mission with SpaceX. Following the successful lift-off, all satellites have established communication, and routine operations are now underway.

These four new satellites add to ICEYE's growing fleet, bringing their total to 44 satellites launched since 2018. Notably, the company has set itself apart by exclusively launching satellites that offer 25 cm resolution, the highest fidelity available in the market.

With plans to launch over 20 additional satellites annually from 2025 onwards, ICEYE's new fleet will serve numerous commercial and dedicated customer missions. All satellites were manufactured in Finland and the United States, highlighting ICEYE’s commitment to developing local capabilities in satellite production.

Rafal Modrzewski, CEO and Co-Founder of ICEYE, emphasized the importance of these advancements: “Through the continuous and reliable deployment of new satellites into the ICEYE constellation, we reinforce our leadership in Earth Observation. Our satellites feature a groundbreaking combination of small size and high performance, which no other company can provide.” He also highlighted the successful launch of the second ICEYE satellite for Space42 and expressed excitement for future collaborations that will enhance the UAE's space capabilities.

Hasan Al Hosani, CEO of Bayanat Smart Solutions—a part of Space42—echoed Modrzewski’s sentiments, stating, “Foresight-2 has furthered the UAE's position as a global leader in satellite-based Earth observation, strengthening our credentials as a multi-orbit satellite operator.” He noted that the SAR constellation would significantly contribute to emergency response preparedness across the region, delivering comprehensive value to customers.

ICEYE's SAR satellites can acquire detailed images of any location on Earth, regardless of environmental conditions, day or night. This capability ensures precise, near-real-time insights crucial for various sectors, including government applications, disaster response, insurance, maritime monitoring, and finance.

The launch also follows ICEYE's previous success in December 2024, when two new satellites were added to the constellation, marking a robust growth within the company. In total, ICEYE has successfully launched nine new satellites throughout 2024.

By owning the largest constellation of SAR satellites globally, ICEYE enables its clients to make informed decisions with a focus on community resilience and sustainable development. The data gathered allows for faster and more accurate responses to changing conditions on Earth, positioning ICEYE as a trusted partner for governments and commercial interests worldwide.

ICEYE operates internationally, with offices in several countries, including Finland, Poland, Spain, the UK, Australia, Japan, UAE, Greece, and the US. Its team of over 700 employees is driven by a shared vision of improving life on Earth through enhanced Earth Observation capabilities.
