The members of the Wihan Quartet have been performing together for seven years, honing their ensemble to deliver an even more refined and beautiful sound. This year's tour is particularly significant, as it marks their 20th visit to Japan, promising to fulfill fans' long-standing expectations with a memorable concert.

Meet the Quartet

The Wihan String Quartet consists of:
  • - Leoš Čepický - 1st Violin
  • - Jan Schulmeister - 2nd Violin
  • - Jakub Čepický - Viola
  • - Michal Kaňka - Cello

This quartet is among the most prestigious in the Czech Republic. The name 'Wihan' pays homage to the founder of the Bohemian String Quartet, Hanuš Wihan, a historic figure in Czech music and a renowned cellist. The quartet was formed in 1985 when its members were students at the Prague Academy of Performing Arts. In 2025, they celebrate 40 years of extraordinary music-making while participating in the Prague Spring International Music Festival, as well as commemorative performances across several European countries.

One of the striking features of the Wihan Quartet is their consistent lineup; aside from two transitions in personnel, the original violinists have remained since the inception of the group. This remarkable stability has drawn compliments from critics, including The New York Times, which highlighted the trust built among the musicians through their long-standing collaboration. Jakub Čepický, the violist, is well-known for his exceptional skills on both violin and viola. He is the progeny of the first violinist, adding a unique dynamic to the ensemble. Meanwhile, Michal Kaňka, the cellist, has had an illustrious career, having performed for around four decades with the Pražák Quartet before joining the Wihan String Quartet.
