Brookfield and The Nuclear Company Join Forces
In an important move for the nuclear energy sector,
Brookfield, a leading global investment firm, has partnered with
The Nuclear Company (TNC) to establish a new company dedicated to the development and implementation of advanced nuclear reactor technologies in the U.S. This venture aims to create a world-leading project execution firm specializing in the deployment of
Westinghouse reactor technology, particularly models AP1000 and AP300.
In a press release dated May 4, 2026, Brookfield and TNC outlined their ambitious objectives, which include overseeing the expansion project of the V.C. Summer Nuclear Station located in Fairfield County, South Carolina. The new entity will not only focus on project management but will also provide an array of services associated with the construction of nuclear power plants, encompassing project execution, licensing support, and oversight of design, procurement, and commissioning processes.
This collaboration is positioned as a pivotal foundation in the nuclear energy landscape, combining Brookfield's extensive asset management and energy infrastructure development expertise with TNC's deep knowledge in nuclear project execution.
Targeting the unfinished projects near Jenkinsville, South Carolina, specifically units 2 and 3 of the V.C. Summer plant, the newly formed company intends to ensure that these reactors are built efficiently and effectively. The state-owned energy company Santee Cooper has expressed support for the new company's involvement in this project, further solidifying the collaboration's local impact.
Wyatt Hartley, a managing partner at Brookfield, commented on the partnership: "This joint venture reflects Brookfield's disciplined approach towards large-scale infrastructure investments while partnering with experienced operators. By combining our global infrastructure development capabilities with expertise in nuclear project execution, we believe this platform can help accelerate the renaissance of American nuclear energy in cooperation with Westinghouse and the government."
Joe Klecha, the leader of TNC’s nuclear sector, added, "Our team, formed at the Vogtle Nuclear Plant, has a wealth of experience in executing some of the world’s most complex energy projects. There has been a gap in the operational model that integrates people, capabilities, and capital to expedite these projects at scale. This partnership is set to establish that model."
