Nanto City Introduces Premium Digital Coupons to Boost Local Economy

Nanto City Launches Premium Digital Coupons

Nanto City, located in Toyama Prefecture, Japan, has announced the introduction of its Premium Digital Coupons, scheduled to go live on April 1, 2026. This initiative, supported by the national government's key financial assistance for local communities, aims to provide meaningful economic relief to its citizens and bolster local businesses amidst the backdrop of rising living costs.

Details of the Digital Coupon Program

The digital coupons will feature a significant 30% premium and will be available in two formats: common coupons and regional coupons.
  • - Common Coupons valued at 5,000 JPY are usable at all participating stores, ensuring flexibility for consumers.
  • - Regional Coupons worth 1,500 JPY are specifically designated for use in smaller, local shops, aimed at promoting community support.

This project is managed in collaboration with Felica Pocket Marketing, which will supply the necessary systems and applications, while the Toyama Satellite Communication Television Company serves as the operational authority.

The absence of physical paper coupons places emphasis on a modern approach, encouraging users to utilize the TOYAMA ONE Wallet app for purchasing and managing their digital coupons.

Key Information:

  • - Application Eligibility: Available to residents of Nanto City as of the application date.
  • - Purchase Cap: Individuals can purchase up to ten sets, equating to a maximum value of 65,000 JPY for only 50,000 JPY.
  • - Purchase Period: April 1, 2026, to April 15, 2026.
  • - Usage Duration: From April 1, 2026, until June 30, 2026.

To participate, residents simply need to download the TOYAMA ONE Wallet app, complete SMS verification, and then utilize the application for coupon purchases.

Impact on Local Economy

In the words of a city spokesperson, this initiative is designed to be versatile, accommodating both small local businesses and larger retailers to mitigate the impact of rising prices affecting food and fuel. The city hopes that this campaign will inspire wider acceptance of digital technologies in economic revitalization and promote cashless transactions among residents.
