Harlem's Fashion Row Unveils New Opportunities at Designer Retreat in NYC

Harlem's Fashion Row: A Platform for Emerging Designers

The 7th Annual Designer Retreat organized by Harlem's Fashion Row (HFR) is taking place in New York City from May 6 to 8, 2025. This event, backed by global brands such as NIKE and PVH Corp. (the parent company of Calvin Klein and TOMMY HILFIGER), aims to enhance the opportunities available to underrepresented fashion designers.

The retreat is designed for 75 selected designers, inviting them to immerse themselves in a three-day experience focused on professional growth, networking, and creative discussions. Kicking off at PVH’s global headquarters, the first day features sessions led by influential figures in the fashion industry. Attendees can expect insightful exchanges, such as a personal narrative from acclaimed designer Brandon Blackwood titled "From Vision to Legacy." This session promises to inspire participants as Blackwood shares his insights on building a brand and the importance of cultural significance in fashion.

Additionally, an engaging discussion with Senior Fashion Directors Kevin Harter and Caroline Maguire from Shopbop will delve into vital strategies to achieve retail success and maintain long-term visibility across the competitive landscape.

The event's second day is marked by unique opportunities called “Industry Stops,” allowing participants to visit some of the most prestigious fashion and retail establishments, including Louis Vuitton, NIKE, TOMMY HILFIGER, and Calvin Klein. These behind-the-scenes tours grant designers exclusive access to industry leaders and insights into various career pathways, fostering mentorship opportunities and connections that can catalyze their ascent in the industry.

As the retreat culminates on the final day at NIKE’s New York HQ, the focus shifts towards innovation and future trends in fashion. Workshops and interactive discussions are set to provoke bold thinking, equipping designers with actionable tools necessary for sustained success in a rapidly evolving fashion marketplace.

Brandice Daniel, the Founder and CEO of Harlem's Fashion Row, emphasizes that the Designer Retreat is more than just a training ground; it serves as a launchpad, paving the way for aspiring designers. Her gratitude toward the sponsors highlights a commitment to supporting designers of color, driving meaningful change in the fashion community.

HFR’s initiative has historically been impactful, celebrating the achievements of over 300 designers since its inception, and this year’s retreat solidifies that legacy further.
