Launching e-Learning Course for Tourism DX Certification in Japan

Launching e-Learning Course for Tourism DX Certification

The Japan Tourism Association (JTA), led by Chairman Masanobu Komoda, is embarking on a new initiative to enhance digital skills within the tourism sector. In response to the pressing need for trained individuals capable of creating data-driven tourism strategies, the recent establishment of the 'Local Revitalization Data Scientist Certification (Tourism DX Certification)' aims to address these challenges.

Background and Purpose

While digital transformation is increasingly necessary across various industries, the tourism sector in Japan has been slow to adapt, particularly due to a prevailing discomfort with data among professionals in the field. The JTA recognizes this challenge and proposes the Tourism DX Certification as a solution to support the development of digital skills and data-driven strategies in tourism.

What is the Tourism DX Certification?

The Tourism DX Certification is designed to cultivate and certify professionals who can formulate and execute data-based tourism strategies at a local level. Utilizing tools such as the 'e-Stat' and the 'Regional Economy Analysis System (RESAS)' provided by the Cabinet Office, learners will acquire the analytical skills necessary for developing effective tourism plans based on relevant data.

Structure of the Certification

The certification is structured into three levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Each level will have distinct learning outcomes to ensure that participants develop the necessary expertise. The initial pilot of the certification program is set for the fiscal year 2025, focusing on the beginner level, while intermediate and advanced levels are planned for future years.

Target Audience

The certification is open to a wide range of participants. This includes local governments, tourism associations, Destination Management Organizations (DMOs), chambers of commerce, and tourism-related service providers. Additionally, students from high schools, vocational schools, and universities are encouraged to participate, making this initiative a versatile opportunity for various stakeholders in the tourism industry.

Fees and Schedule

The examination fee for the beginner level is set inclusively with taxes. Further details regarding the schedule for the e-learning resources, examination fees, and important dates will be shared on the dedicated webpage.

Learning Resources and Enrollment

From August 1st, applications for e-learning courses will begin. Participants can enroll in online courses and access relevant texts that will assist in their preparation for certification. Detailed information about the application process for the examination is expected to be available by September.

Contact Information

For any inquiries related to the certification, participants can reach out to the Certification and Accreditation Department of the Japan Tourism Association via email at [email protected]. The dedicated website also serves as a platform for additional questions, including a FAQ section to assist potential candidates.
