15th Annual Donor Network West Foundation Run/Walk: A Tribute to Organ Donors and a Beacon of Hope
15th Annual Donor Network West Foundation Run/Walk
This September, community members are coming together in San Ramon, California, to participate in the 15th Annual Donor Network West Foundation Run/Walk. This inspiring event aims to raise crucial funds to enhance services for families of organ donors and for individuals awaiting transplants. More than 700 participants, including organ donor families, transplant recipients, living donors, and hospital partners, are expected to engage in this 5-kilometer journey, demonstrating solidarity and support to those affected by organ donation.
The Run/Walk is slated for Saturday, September 13, at 7:30 a.m., starting at Bishop Ranch located at 2700 Camino Ramon in San Ramon. Community members and families are encouraged to join in by either registering as individual participants or forming teams to walk together, showcasing their commitment to a vital cause. Registration is available online at DonorNetworkWest.org/5k-run-walk.
The significance of this year's event goes beyond just fundraising; it serves as a celebration of life and remembrance for various organ donors. Notably acknowledged will be Tyree Jackson, a 22-year-old Santa Clara resident who tragically lost his life in a pedestrian accident in 2022. Tyree, driven by his passion for teaching children at a local gymnastics gym, became an organ donor after experiencing the losses of his father and stepfather. Through his generous gift, he saved the lives of four individuals, including Isabelle Estrada, a 16-year-old girl who now thrives with the heart he donated.
For the first time, Tyree’s mother, Summer Eyo, will personally meet Isabelle and her mother, Heather Harr, during a special gathering the day before the event. Together, they will honor Tyree's memory and legacy by participating in the Run/Walk, embodying the spirit of compassion that Tyree represented. Summer expressed her pride in her son, stating, “I have so much pride and admiration for Tyree. He was a giver. It's just who he was.”
The event is presented by Blue Skies Transplant and features 36 teams and 20 business sponsors, underscoring the community's involvement and support. Participants will also enjoy entertainment provided by DJ D Sharp, the official DJ of the Golden State Warriors.
