Upcoming Food Safety Commission Meeting: 1015th Session
The Food Safety Commission (FSC) in Japan is scheduled to convene for its 1015th meeting on February 24, 2024, at 2:00 PM. Meeting Agenda
The session will address several crucial topics related to food safety, including:
1. Food Health Impact Evaluation
- Discussion on the necessity of evaluating certain food products and pesticides that have not been deemed essential for consumer safety assessments.
- Specific points include a proposed adjustment in the standards for residues of the pesticide Acrylonitrile, along with clarifications about associated food items and the elimination of testing methods for certain chemicals, such as 2,4,5-T.
2. Risk Management Agency Proposals
- Review of feedback from risk management authorities regarding the retraction of evaluation requests for four pesticide items, including Dichlormid and Phenoxycarb.
- A sweeping removal of 29 pesticide evaluations, including DCIP and Isophenfos, will also be discussed.
- Additionally, there will be a re-evaluation of health standards for three pesticides, namely 2,4,5-T, Captafol, and Daminozide.
3. Operational Planning for 2024
- An outline of the operational plan for the food safety commission for the fiscal year 2024 will be presented, alongside a report on emergency response training outcomes from the previous year.
- Discussion on the selection of candidates for its self-initiated food health impact evaluations.
4. Evaluation Procedures
- Progress regarding the standard processing periods for food health impact assessments related to company applications.
5. Miscellaneous Matters
- Open floor for any other concerns or discussions relevant to food safety.

To participate in the meeting, either in person or via online streaming, interested individuals must apply by February 20, 2024, at 12 PM. The online application can be submitted through the Cabinet Office's Common Opinion Registration System. Those opting for video viewing will receive a necessary URL by February 24, 2024, at 12 PM.
For those hoping to attend the meeting in person, seats will be limited and allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Attendees must complete the registration process at the meeting venue between 1:30 PM and 1:50 PM on the day of the event. Late arrivals will not be permitted entry.
