Peoples Bancorp Inc. Reports Strong Third Quarter Results for 2026 with Increased Growth

Peoples Bancorp Inc., a diversified financial services company based in Marietta, Ohio, announced its financial results for the third quarter of 2026. The organization reported a net income of $32.6 million, marking a significant increase from $28 million in the previous quarter and $29.5 million in Q3 of the previous year. This translates to $0.91 earnings per fully diluted share, compared to $0.78 last quarter and $0.83 in Q3 2025.

The increase in net income is attributed to a rise in net interest income, which climbed by $1.1 million from the previous quarter to reach $93.8 million for Q3 2026. The net interest margin also improved, rising to 4.31%, driven by enhanced investment and loan yields. The total loan and lease balances as of September 30, 2026, showed a modest increment of $19.2 million, or 1%, primarily bolstered by growth in construction and commercial loans.

Peoples Bancorp has undertaken several notable actions, including its plan to acquire Citizens National Corp. and Capital Bancorp, Inc. These mergers are pivotal for expanding its market presence and diversifying its offerings. The acquisition of Citizens National Corporation, announced on April 21, 2026, is valued at approximately $76.6 million in a cash and stock deal, further solidifying Peoples' position within the banking sector. The anticipated transaction will allow Citizens to merge with Peoples and subsequently combine with Peoples Bank, thus expanding the latter’s operational footprint in Kentucky.

Meanwhile, the all-stock transaction to acquire Capital Bancorp, valued at $728.1 million, was also announced. By September 30, 2026, Peoples had incurred acquisition-related expenses of $0.9 million relating to the Citizens merger and $1.0 million for Capital Bancorp.

In terms of expense management, total non-interest expenses rose by $1.8 million from the linked quarter, largely due to higher professional fees associated with acquisition activities. Additionally, core deposits, excluding brokered deposits, saw an increase of $19.2 million compared with the previous quarter, indicating a strong deposit foundation.

Tyler Wilcox, President and CEO of Peoples Bancorp, commented, "We are very pleased with our strong performance for the third quarter of 2026, highlighted by continued improvement in our net interest margin, net interest income, our fee-based revenue streams, and overall profitability. Our results reflect disciplined execution, and we remain committed to maintaining our momentum through the fourth quarter to close the year in a strong financial position."

Peoples Bancorp’s asset quality also remained stable, reflected in an improvement of key metrics such as delinquency rates and non-performing assets. Non-accrual loans decreased compared to the previous quarters, stabilizing the company's asset quality outlook despite some fluctuations caused by the economic environment.

The firm further indicated that the efficiency ratio increased slightly to 58.5%, primarily due to higher non-interest expenses, a trend that it aims to manage as it leverages its growth through strategic acquisitions. Overall, Peoples Bancorp Inc. continues to show a compelling trajectory toward sustained profitability and operational expansion as it navigates the financial markets with its strategic initiatives.
