The Perils of Abandoned Properties: Insights from Kojima Corporation's President
In the recent episode of BS11's "Mimizuyori Bizu Trend," Kazushige Kojima, the president of Kojima Corporation, recounted alarming experiences involving abandoned properties and potential crimes. Airing on June 5, the segment featured an in-depth interview with Kojima, highlighting incidents that took place over the past year, particularly a harrowing encounter in Bunkyo Ward, Hakusan.
During the episode, Kojima discussed a specific case of fraud attempted by a so-called 'ground master' at one of his properties in Hakusan. The incident began in 2022 but escalated throughout the year, culminating in the arrest of the perpetrator in November. This experience not only underscored the risks associated with abandoned properties but also raised concerns about how such locations can become hotbeds for criminal activity.
As an expert in real estate consulting and a certified inheritance advisor, Kojima has dedicated his career to informing the public about the complexities of property management, especially concerning abandoned houses. Alongside his work in real estate, he has written extensively, publishing a book titled "Don't Turn Your Family Home Into a Burden" with Dombunkan Publishing in 2022. He has made significant appearances on various media platforms, including Nippon Television's morning show "Sukkiri" as a specialist on inheritance and property issues.
His insights are timely given Japan's increasing number of abandoned houses, which pose numerous risks, not just to property owners but to communities at large. In his dialogue with host Ayana Maki, they further delved into the social implications of such properties, discussing how ignored buildings can proliferate criminal activities and degrade neighborhood vitality.
Kojima's upcoming book, scheduled for release in 2025, titled "Sell Your Abandoned House Now," aims to equip property owners with knowledge and strategies to handle their abandoned properties efficiently. This book release will also be celebrated at a gratitude festival held at Otemachi Sankei Plaza, where notable figures, including Toshiyuki Suda, President of City Homes, and Keiichi Ishii, Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives, will be present.
