The TIB FAB Makers Challenge 2025 is officially open for applications! This exciting program aims to cultivate innovative manufacturing startups, particularly those in their seed or pre-seed stages. Organized by the Tokyo Innovation Base (TIB), this initiative brings together startups and their supporters in a hub designed to ignite innovation and collaboration. The program offers an extensive support network to transform your creative ideas into tangible hardware products.

Program Overview


The TIB FAB Makers Challenge focuses on providing education, resources, and mentoring crucial for developing hardware products. Participants will gain hands-on experience in:
  • - Understanding essential knowledge for hardware development.
  • - Learning techniques to conceptualize ideas into prototypes.
  • - Gradually advancing towards mass production through iterative design processes.

The program spans six months, offering a comprehensive, one-stop support experience that includes:

Manufacturing Support

The TIB FAB facility gives participants access to cutting-edge equipment and resources:
  • - 3D Printers and Laser Cutters for rapid prototyping.
  • - Digital fabrication tools covering circuit design to electronic board assembly.
  • - Metalworking machinery for advanced fabrication.
  • - IoT development tools and environmental testing equipment to enhance product durability and functionality.
These high-quality tools are available for participants free of charge!

Expert Workshops and Seminars

Participants will engage in practical learning facilitated by successful entrepreneurs and industry experts. Workshops are geared toward providing insider tips on product development and commercialization, ensuring attendees leave with actionable knowledge.

Mentoring and Advisory Support

Every participant will receive tailored support based on their individual needs, including:
  • - Technical consultations to troubleshoot challenges during development.
  • - Access to mentorship from experienced professionals.
  • - Guidance on transitioning from initial prototypes to suitable products for mass production.

Community Building

Building a strong network is pivotal for any startup's success. Participants become part of a community of like-minded innovators, entrepreneurs, and specialists constantly exchanging ideas and fostering collaborations.

Promotion and Networking Opportunities

The program offers valuable opportunities for participants to showcase their developments to essential stakeholders, including:
  • - Investors and potential partners through matching events.
  • - Promotional occasions to highlight products and achievements, enhancing visibility in the market.

Final Presentation Day

At the culmination of the program, participants will present their projects to an audience of investors, financial institutions, and supporters, gaining critical exposure and feedback for their work.

Application Details


Eligibility:
Engaged individuals or corporations meeting all requirements:
  • - Have a viable hardware product idea or prototype.
  • - Be at least 15 years old and have graduated from middle school.
  • - Have a committed team willing to develop the product.
  • - Be prepared to achieve prototyping by January 2026.
  • - Be ready to fully participate in the program.

Cost: Free (participants cover their own food, transportation, and some material costs).
Capacity: Approximately 30 participants (teams can include up to two members).
Format: Primarily onsite at TIB FAB or designated TIB spaces.

1. Application Period: June 2 (Monday) - July 1 (Tuesday) 9:59 AM
2. Selection Process: July (including document screening and presentation evaluation)
3. Kick-Off for Selected Participants: August
4. Program Duration: August to January (6 months)
5. Results Presentation Day: January

TIB FAB operates as a field for prototype development, equipped with 3D printers, laser cutters, and a support staff to help startups realize their ambitions. Through this initiative, TIB aims to foster innovative ideas that can advance society. The program is supported by the general incorporated association DMM.make TOKYO, which provides over 2,000 pieces of equipment for participant use.

This effort aligns with the ‘2050 Tokyo Strategy’ to establish a nurturing ground for startups in the city.
