Explore the Diversity of Insect Sounds with New Website Released by PalSystem for Summer Research

New Website for Summer Research

On July 21, 2025, PalSystem, based in Shinjuku, Tokyo, launched an engaging website titled "Let's Listen to Cicada Sounds". This initiative aims to deepen the understanding of biodiversity through the fascinating world of cicadas. The website offers sound samples of various cicada species and downloadable research sheets for fieldwork, making it a perfect resource for students interested in conducting independent research during their summer break.

The platform encourages users to closely listen to the cicada sounds that fill their surroundings, highlighting the diversity of these insects. It features sounds from six different species, including the Minmin and Abura cicadas, accompanied by photographs for visual identification. This experience aims to sharpen the senses and enhance awareness of the local ecosystem's richness.

To facilitate this research, PalSystem provides an original worksheet that students can submit directly. This worksheet allows users to document details such as the time and location of cicada sounds they have heard, as well as the species classified. The organization also advocates for participants to share their findings with the Ministry of the Environment's biologic data collection system,
