What is Letra?


Letra debuted in 2014 with a focus on Mercado bags as its primary merchandise. The founder, Masanori Kitajima, was captivated by the lively atmosphere and colorful streets of Mexico during his visits in the late 2000s, where he first discovered these unique bags. Recognizing their potential, he began importing and selling them in Japan.

Since its launch, Letra has steadily increased the awareness and popularity of Mercado bags in Japan, from a mere 1,200 units procured in 2015 to an impressive 35,000 units expected in 2024. The brand aims to provide joy to its customers while supporting traditional craftsmanship and creating training opportunities for inmates in Mexico. Letra’s business model emphasizes sustainability and social responsibility, contributing positively to the lives of artisans and ensuring the preservation of their skills.
