Pakistan Hosts the Inaugural DFDI Forum: A Milestone in Digital Investment

Groundbreaking Digital Investment Forum Concludes Successfully in Pakistan

On April 29-30, 2025, Pakistan achieved a remarkable milestone by hosting the inaugural Digital Foreign Direct Investment Forum (DFDI) in Islamabad. This pivotal event, organized by the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) in collaboration with the Government of Pakistan, attracted an impressive gathering of 700 delegates, including Heads of State, senior officials, global investors, and tech pioneers from member states and beyond. The forum served as a strategic platform to redefine the frameworks of digital investment and explore new avenues for international cooperation.

During the two-day conference, participants engaged in key discussions aimed at enhancing digital investment strategies. The gathering was graced by the presence of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and DCO Secretary-General Deemah AlYahya, both of whom emphasized the importance of a multistakeholder approach to digital transformation. By recognizing the efforts of each other, they underlined the collaborative spirit necessary for a thriving digital economy.

A standout moment of the DFDI was the launch of the Digital FDI Pakistan Insight Report, a comprehensive document highlighting Pakistan's innovative approaches to digital development. The report marked Pakistan as the first nation to implement the DCO's Digital FDI initiative across its four main pillars. It also identified six strategic actions aimed at attracting ongoing digital investments into the country.

Prime Minister Sharif expressed his pride in Pakistan's leadership role in digital transformation, stating, "The successful outcomes of the DFDI affirm our commitment to creating an investment-friendly digital environment. Together with the DCO and our partners, we are laying the groundwork for a sustainable digital future that will benefit not only Pakistan but also all nations embracing digital change."

At the forum, it was noted that Pakistan has successfully attracted over $700 million in digital economy inflows, a testament to its burgeoning digital market. Over 45 countries participated, with more than 40 international firms and startups showcasing cutting-edge products and services. Attendees included around 35 ministers and official delegations from a wide range of countries, alongside a robust line-up of global speakers and CEOs from leading IT firms.

Deemah AlYahya, the DCO Secretary-General, praised Pakistan for its exceptional organizational efforts, stating, "This forum has highlighted the transformative potential of investment in bridging digital divides while promoting sustainable growth. The DCO is committed to establishing a global investment environment where every nation can harness digital innovation to achieve inclusive growth."

Founded in November 2020 during the G20 summit in Riyadh, the DCO includes Pakistan among its five founding members. With an opportunity to preside over the organization in 2026, Pakistan is positioning itself strategically to influence global digital economic dialogues, partnerships, and innovations.

The DCO aims to foster inclusive and sustainable digital economic growth among its member countries, representing nearly $3.5 trillion in GDP. The organization is dedicated to empowering youth, women, and entrepreneurs and leveraging digital technologies to foster economic advancements.

In conclusion, the inaugural DFDI Forum is a milestone event for Pakistan, reflecting its commitment to becoming a pivotal player in the global digital economy. The insights provided and connections made during this forum will set the stage for future collaborations and advancements within the digital landscape, ultimately furthering economic opportunities for all nations involved.
