CATL and Partners Launch a Revolutionary Battery Integration Project in Indonesia



On July 1, 2025, Ningbo Contemporary Brunp Lygend Co., Ltd. (CBL), a subsidiary of Guangdong Brunp Recycling Technology Co., Ltd (Brunp), officially inaugurated the Indonesia Battery Integration Project in Karawang New Industry City (KNIC), West Java, Indonesia. This ambitious undertaking, costing nearly $6 billion, aims to revolutionize the battery supply chain by integrating all aspects from nickel extraction to battery recycling.

The project, which spans over 2,000 hectares, will not only enhance Indonesia's battery manufacturing capabilities but also plays a pivotal role in meeting the country's goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. At full capacity, it is projected to create 8,000 direct jobs and 35,000 indirect job opportunities. This is a significant boost for Indonesia’s economy and a step toward fostering a sustainable industrial ecosystem.

Comprehensive Approach to Battery Production



The Indonesia Battery Integration Project is unique as it encompasses the entire value chain for battery production. This includes mining and processing nickel, producing battery materials, and facilitating battery recycling. The manufacturing facilities located within KNIC and at Artha Industrial Hill (AIH) will initially boast an annual production capacity of 6.9 GWh in its first phase. Leveraging CATL's expertise in innovative manufacturing practices ensures the production of high-quality battery cells and modules, catering to the growing electric mobility market in Indonesia and beyond.

Moreover, a critical component of this initiative involves establishing the country's first circular renewable energy system. Operations at the FHT Industrial Park will focus on nickel extraction, battery material production, and battery recycling, aiming for an ultra-low energy consumption model. The project promises a recovery rate of over 95% for valuable metals, underscoring its commitment to sustainability and profitability.

Once fully operational, the facility is expected to produce 142,000 tons of nickel and 30,000 tons of cathode materials annually, alongside processing an estimated 20,000 tons of recycled batteries. This aspect alone highlights Indonesia's determination to lead in sustainable energy practices and innovation.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto spoke about the significance of this project for promoting sustainable energy. He expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration with global partners in developing an environmentally friendly battery industry ecosystem.
