The renowned lifestyle goods manufacturer, MARNA Co., Ltd., based in Sumida, Tokyo, has announced the release of its revamped Shupatto Umbrella on February 24, 2026. This umbrella stands out from the crowd with its ingenious design, allowing for a hassle-free folding experience.

Unique Folding Mechanism

Unlike traditional umbrellas, the Shupatto Umbrella boasts a design devoid of belts or fasteners. Users can simply close the umbrella, and, thanks to a proprietary mechanism, the ribs rotate to wrap the fabric around the central axis. This innovative feature eliminates the need for manual adjustment or the worry of wet hands, making the process of folding the umbrella straightforward and clean. It’s particularly beneficial when carrying items or when users need to quickly enter a bus, taxi, or store on rainy days.

Lightweight and Durable Design

Since its initial release in May 2023, the Shupatto Umbrella has seen a remarkable sales performance, surpassing 160,000 units. The latest model brings in substantial upgrades, primarily shifting the frame material from steel to fiberglass, which significantly reduces its weight. For instance, the 58 cm version is approximately 25 grams lighter, while the upgraded 65 cm variant increases in size to 65 cm but is still about 30 grams lighter. This shift not only improves the statistical weight but also enhances balance, providing an overall lighter feel.

Refreshingly Vibrant Colors

In addition to structural improvements, the new Shupatto Umbrella showcases a refreshed lineup of colors. With twelve variations available across two sizes, the umbrella offers soothing hues that blend effortlessly into daily life as well as vivid colors that pop against gloomy skies.
