Scout AI Inc., a pioneering frontier AI lab for military applications, has recently made headlines by successfully raising $100 million in oversubscribed Series A funding. This impressive financing is expected to significantly accelerate the development of Fury—its foundational AI model designed for unmanned warfare. As the largest defense-tech Series A round in U.S. history, this milestone showcases the growing investment interest in developing cutting-edge military technologies.

Co-led by Align Ventures and Draper Associates, this funding round signals a commitment to enhancing the capabilities of autonomous systems in defense. Colby Adcock, the CEO and Co-Founder of Scout AI, expressed a strong belief that modern AI's most crucial frontier is in the physical domain, particularly in support of those who serve in the military. Highlighting the urgency of their mission, Adcock stated, “Some AI companies are stepping back from defense. We’re stepping up.” He emphasized the company’s goal of attracting the best engineers to work on projects aimed at ensuring traditional military dominance in an age increasingly characterized by robotic warfare.

Scout AI's aim is distinct from traditional defense contractors and focuses squarely on developing the AI brain for unmanned warfare. By translating commander intent into coordinated actions across a variety of unmanned systems—spanning land, air, sea, and space—Fury is designed to give U.S. military forces a tactical edge. The technology can orchestrate complex operations and facilitate decision-making in real-time, which is critical as unmanned systems increasingly redefine the modern battlefield.

Tyrone Lee, a partner at Draper Associates, remarked, “Scout AI is exactly the company this moment demands.” This underscores the sentiment that whoever can effectively command and control uncrewed systems will hold a significant advantage in future conflicts.

Since its inception 18 months ago, Scout AI has made noteworthy strides within the defense sector. Within its first year alone, the company secured $11 million in contracts with the Department of War, introduced Ox, an autonomous vehicle orchestrator, and successfully conducted a fully autonomous strike mission using artificial intelligence agents—demonstrating their capability and vision for the future of unmanned warfare. The company has also built a robust team of 34 experts, each with experience in AI, robotics, and national security, further strengthening their position within this emerging sector.

Collin Otis, CTO and Co-Founder, added, “The U.S. military has been promised true, one-to-many autonomy for years. Fury finally delivers it.” The funding will be aimed at dramatically scaling their military AI technology and enhancing the collaboration between multiple agents, solidifying Fury’s status as the most advanced AI foundation model for warfare. As global adversaries also invest heavily in similar technologies, Otis stressed the importance of moving quickly to maintain technological superiority.

The funding round also witnessed participation from other notable investors, including Decisive Point, Booz Allen Ventures, BVVC, and Neman Ventures, among others, signaling widespread confidence in Scout AI’s vision and leadership in the defense technology landscape.

Scout AI, founded in 2024 by Adcock and Otis, operates out of Silicon Valley.
