Sanyodo Bookstore Adopts HOUSEI's Unmanned Store Solutions
HOUSEI Inc., based in Shinjuku, Tokyo, is proud to announce the implementation of its unmanned store solutions at Sanyodo Bookstore in the Ikawa area of Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture. This marks the 16th Sanyodo location to utilize HOUSEI’s technology following the launch at the Yomogi Store in April 2024. The partnership is expected to significantly improve operational efficiency, streamline bookstore management, and boost sales.
New Operational Hours at Sanyodo Bookstore Ikawa
As of May 19, 2025, Sanyodo Bookstore in Ikawa will operate under the following hours:
- - Traditional (Attended): 9:00 AM - 10:00 PM
- - Smart Unmanned: 10:00 PM - 2:00 AM
Note: After unstaffed hours, the store will remain closed for operations.
Sanyodo's Vision for Unmanned Operations
A spokesperson from Sanyodo expressed enthusiasm about the implementation of smart unmanned operations, particularly in response to the ongoing trends in reduced operating hours post-COVID-19. By adopting this model, the bookstore aims to provide an enriched customer experience where visitors can explore new book finds at any hour without time constraints. The company plans to continue rolling out smart unmanned stores moving forward.
Current Smart Unmanned Operations at Sanyodo
Currently, out of 68 Sanyodo Bookstores, 16 locations have successfully integrated HOUSEI's AI facial recognition solution, WelcomID, to enable smart unmanned operations. This includes:
- - Fully Unstaffed 24-hour Stores: Ikawa Store, Yomogi Store, Shimokasugai Store, Toyokawa Store, Hekinan Store, Yamato Store, Hishino Store, Minokamo Store, Handa Store, Toki Store, and Umetsubo Store.
- - Unstaffed Closing Stores: Ishioka Store, Yoro Store, and Obama Store.
- - Smart Unmanned Open/Close Stores: Seki East Store.
