Introducing the Collaborative 1461 Shoes from Dr. Martens and MHL.

In July 2026, Dr. Martens and MHL. will unveil their first collaboration, a fresh interpretation of the iconic 1461 shoes handcrafted in Britain. This partnership was built on shared values of thoughtful design, expert craftsmanship, and a commitment to longevity.

The collaboration features the legendary 1461 model, which commemorates its 65th anniversary this year. The original 1460 boot debuted in 1960, followed by the workshoe model 1461 on April 1, 1961. Known for its exceptional durability, the 1461 maintains a clean 3-eye silhouette that has been passed down for over six decades, serving as the foundation for MHL.'s reimagining of this well-known classic.

Crafted with chrome-free leather supplied by C.F. Stead, the shoes come in rich brown and black options featuring natural oiled grain leather. This material offers depth in texture and color, while the matte finish brings a soft touch that only improves with wear, allowing wearers to enjoy its natural aging process.

Attentive details include flat unwaxed cotton laces, a double-stitched toe cap, a padded heel collar, and a leather heel tab inspired by the extensive Dr. Martens archival collection of workers' shoes. The soles sport the brand's signature smoke-colored DMS air-cushioned sole, finished with black-on-black Goodyear welt stitching.

The ‘DR. MARTENS FOR MHL. 1461’ shoes are hand-crafted in the same Made in England factory established in Northamptonshire where Dr. Martens began. Margaret Howell, the designer of MHL., emphasized, "Dr. Martens' lace-up shoes are timeless. They are durable, crafted with care, and carry an age-defying style, which resonates with our MHL. collection."

Michael Ford, Dr. Martens' Director of Brand Concepts and Partnerships, added, "The project reflects our deep respect for Margaret and her team's dedication to evolving designs while honoring the past. We’ve incorporated archival details into the iconic 1461 to manifest a new expression."

The shoes will be available for global release on July 16, 2026, priced at 49,500 yen for both black and brown color options. Retail will take place across all MHL. locations, select Margaret Howell stores, the official mix.tokyo online store, the Dr. Martens official online store (available only in black), and the Dr. Martens Showroom in Tokyo.
