Kin Reduces Home Insurance Rates Significantly in South Florida Market

Kin's Groundbreaking Rate Reductions in South Florida

Kin, a direct-to-consumer insurance provider, has recently unveiled a substantial average reduction of over 20% in homeowners insurance rates specifically for policyholders in South Florida, including Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties. This announcement, made on September 14, 2026, marks a significant shift in the insurance landscape, providing much-needed financial relief to homeowners in a region often plagued by high insurance costs.

This rate reduction comes after several reforms led by the Governor's office, Insurance Commissioner, and state legislators, aimed at stabilizing the insurance market in Florida. As stated by Kin’s Chief Insurance and Compliance Officer, Angel Conlin, there has been a clear improvement in the market, especially in South Florida, which bears the brunt of hurricane risks due to its geographic location.

According to the July 2026 Property Insurance Stability Report released by the Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR), legal disputes related to homeowners insurance have decreased significantly in these counties, which, while still having the highest litigation rates in Florida, saw a drop from 24.1% in 2022 to only 2.0% in 2025. This improvement has allowed Kin to offer more stable coverage without any statewide rate increases for three years.

Conlin emphasized the importance of South Florida, noting that it houses nearly a quarter of Florida’s owner-occupied homes. "We have structured our business model to cater to homeowners in high-risk areas, and we are pleased to lower prices as we continue to grow in this market,” he mentioned.

To enhance its services and cater to a broader segment, Kin has also increased its maximum total insured value to $14 million, accommodating homeowners with higher-value properties in the Tri-County area. These steps are intended not only to provide affordable insurance options but also to build a stronger connection with the local community that faces unique challenges.

Additionally, Kin is introducing a range of discounts for eligible Florida residents in 2026, which includes:
  • - A discount for bundling auto insurance with a home policy,
  • - A senior discount for policyholders aged 50 and above,
  • - An early quote discount for individuals who receive quotes seven days ahead of their coverage start date,
  • - A discount for homeowners who have purchased their properties within the last decade.

Kin’s operations extend across 14 states, including Florida, where it aims to cater to around 50% of the market for home insurance. Known for its commitment to customer satisfaction, Kin boasts a high rating of 4.7 out of 5 on Google, an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, and an
