AI WAN Revolutionizes IP Networks for the Intelligent Era, Speeds Up Service Growth

AI WAN Revolutionizes IP Networks for the Intelligent Era

On March 24, 2025, Huawei hosted the IP GALA summit during the MPLS & SRv6 AI Net World Congress 2025, featuring the theme "AI WAN: Leading IP Networks into the Intelligent Era." This significant event gathered service providers, standard organizations, and industry associations to discuss and explore the latest trends in AI WAN innovation. Among the prominent participants were Telecom Argentina and Turkcell Türkiye, who shared their innovative applications in IP networking.

Huawei presented its AI WAN solution, which aims to empower IP networks through artificial intelligence. The initiative was launched in collaboration with the IPv6 Forum, World Broadband Association (WBBA), and several key industry players. The primary goal is to foster innovation and enhance the deployment of IP networks in this evolving digital landscape.

During the summit, Zuo Meng, President of the Router Domain at Huawei's Data Communication Product Line, highlighted the challenges faced by service providers. The stagnation of traditional services and the slow adoption of new offerings necessitate significant upgrades to next-generation networks. With AI's integration into operations, routing devices, and connections, Huawei's AI WAN solution enhances network value and capabilities.

Latif Ladid, Chair of the IPv6 Forum, asserted that integrating AI with network infrastructure like AI WAN is essential for future developments. To expedite the implementation of SRv6, the IPv6 Forum introduced the SRv6 Ready Logo program, with Huawei being one of the first device suppliers to achieve the certification. This demonstrates Huawei's commitment to leading the way in innovative networking solutions.

Santiago Costanzo, Manager of Transport Development at Telecom Argentina, discussed the role of essential technologies in IP networks during the AI era. He emphasized that SRv6 assists providers in improving end-to-end automation efficiency and achieving deterministic latency. The use of AI technologies drastically simplifies operations, enhancing overall efficiency and adding value for customers.

Meanwhile, Durmus Mehmet, Deputy Director of IP/MPLS Core and Data Center Networks at Turkcell, revealed the company's efforts to develop a highly reliable, ultrabroadband, autonomous network to offer differentiated services. He underscored Turkcell's commitment to collaborating with Huawei for innovations in energy saving, fiber monitoring, and AI application identification.

Xu Huan, Vice President of the Router Domain at Huawei, elaborated on the features of the AI WAN solution, illustrating its three-layer architecture. This innovative system comprises AI routers, new AI connections, and an AI New Brain. By building networks with optimal total cost of ownership (TCO), the AI WAN solution supports service expansion and enhances operational efficiency, ultimately driving new service growth.

Wu Qin, Huawei's architect of communication networks and a member of the IETF Internet Architecture Board, explained that the AI New Brain consists of three components: AssurSpirit, ChangeSpirit, and OptimSpirit. These components facilitate collaboration between various AI models, enabling smart applications and accelerating advancement towards Autonomous Networks (AN) Level 4.

Carsten Rossenhövel, CTO and co-founder of the European Advanced Networking Test Center (EANTC), presented the progress of interoperability tests among various providers scheduled for 2025. This initiative signifies a notable maturity level for IP networks in the AI era, particularly in terms of interoperability capabilities.

The event concluded with the official launch of the AI WAN initiative by the IPv6 Forum, WBBA, Turkcell Türkiye, Telecom Argentina, EANTC, and Huawei. This collaborative effort marks a promising stride towards innovating and implementing IP networks in today's fast-paced technological environment. Looking ahead, Huawei aims to continue its partnerships with service providers and industry leaders to uncover new markets in the intelligent era, helping clients achieve business success and accelerate the growth of new services.
