Embracing a Dream: Yoko Reiyano's Performance of 'Dōjōji'
Yoko Reiyano, a distinguished Noh performer from the Kanze school, is set to realize a lifelong aspiration with her upcoming performance of the iconic Noh play 'Dōjōji'. Scheduled for February 6, 2027, at the renowned Kanze Noh Theatre in Ginza, Tokyo, this event marks a pivotal moment in her artistic journey.
Since childhood, Yoko has harbored deep admiration for 'Dōjōji', a work characterized by its intricate choreography and the dramatic symbolism of a massive bell. Her aspiration to take the stage in such a grand production dates back to her early exposure to the performances of her seniors, who have challenged themselves with this monumental piece. Yoko vividly recalls the awe she felt witnessing the gravity and intensity of their performances, inspiring her: "One day, I too will stand on this stage."
In her heartfelt remarks about the performance, Yoko expressed her profound gratitude towards her teachers, mentors, and supporters, acknowledging that the opportunity to fulfill her dream is a result of their unwavering support. She reflected on the significant challenges presented by the play—chief among them, the captivating yet daunting moment of her entrance into the symbolic bell.
"To embrace this opportunity so richly offered to me is both a privilege and a profound challenge," she commented, expressing her commitment to presenting the best of herself in this performance.
As part of the program, the performance will feature several pieces, including 'Hanagatsu', 'Nonomiya', and 'Saidera', followed by 'Dōjōji' itself—Yoko Reiyano performing the lead role with Seigo Mikuriya as the secondary actor, accompanied by a talented array of musicians and chanting chorus.
