Dancing with Local Legends: The Great Buddha Shumai Dance in Kanagawa

Dancing with Local Legends: The Great Buddha Shumai Dance

Apaman Network Inc., a leading rental housing brokerage company based in Chiyoda, Tokyo, reveals the 14th installment of their nationwide dance project featuring their mascot, Bear-kun. Scheduled to kick off on August 6, 2025, the “Great Buddha's Enlightenment Shumai Dance” aims to showcase the unique cultural and historical background of Kanagawa Prefecture while sparking interest through social media.

This initiative seeks to highlight the beauty and charm of each of Japan's 47 prefectures through energetic performances by Bear-kun against iconic landmarks and local delicacies. This project is also aligned with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically targeting sustainable urban development and economic growth through provincial engagement.

Stage Set in Kanagawa - Combining History & Flavor

The 14th edition takes center stage in Kanagawa, a prefecture known for its rich history, stunning coastal scenery, and diverse culinary offerings. The choreography intertwines the serene essence of Kamakura's Great Buddha with the delicious and approachable nature of Yokohama's shumai. This fun yet heartfelt dance performance captures the essence of Kanagawa, inviting locals and tourists alike to engage with both the dance and the region it represents.

Unique Dance Choreography

The dance is straightforward yet engaging, broken down into easily memorable moves:
1. Start with the Great Buddha pose
2. Twist to the right
3. Twist to the left
4. Repeat the right twist
5. Repeat the left twist
6. Finish with the Great Buddha pose

This engaging choreography not only entertains but also serves as a light-hearted introduction to Shumai, a beloved dish in the region, and the cultural icon of the Great Buddha.

Kanagawa's Appeal: More Than Just Beautiful Scenery

Kanagawa's unique charm lies in its perfect blend of urban and natural environments. The capital city, Yokohama, is an eclectic mix of modern skyscrapers and historical architecture since its opening to foreign trade. The vibrant Chinatown and the iconic waterfront at Minato Mirai add to a lifestyle that combines local culture with contemporary urban living.

The ancient city of Kamakura offers a tranquil refuge, steeped in tradition and natural beauty, while the Shonan region is popular for water sports and active lifestyles. Locations like Hakone and Tanzawa provide a perfect getaway with hot springs and hiking opportunities, catering to a wide range of lifestyles.

The seamless access to urban conveniences, along with family-friendly services and educational resources, enables residents to enjoy a high quality of life. Kanagawa receives high appreciation as a 'city where you want to live forever,' appealing to residents of all ages.
