Longchamp Collaborates with Madagascar's NGO LANA ANAKA to Launch 'Le Roseau Raphia'

Longchamp's Collaboration with LANA ANAKA

Longchamp, the iconic French maison founded in 1948 by Jean Cassegrain, has just launched a remarkable collection named 'Le Roseau Raphia.' This initiative is a culmination of a three-year collaboration with LANA ANAKA, an NGO based in Madagascar that focuses on supporting children's education and women's social advancement.

This new collection celebrates the craftsmanship of both Longchamp and Madagascar, featuring unique items such as the 'Le Roseau Filet Raphia' and various accessories available globally. In Japan, these products can be found at Longchamp's official online store, as well as at flagship locations like 'Longchamp La Maison Omotesando' and 'Longchamp La Maison Ginza', as well as various boutiques nationwide.

Longchamp has always been dedicated to merging tradition and innovation while aiming for a sustainable future. The brand supports women, art, and young talents, and its collaboration with LANA ANAKA reflects this ethos. Madagascar, a country rich in natural resources, is home to traditional crafts that are often passed down through generations, particularly among women. The artisans of Madagascar have developed exceptional skills in working with plant fibers, learning techniques such as weaving, crocheting, and embroidery alongside basketry.

The Atelier LANA was established to produce fashion accessories using traditional methods from natural fibers like raffia, straw, sisal, and cotton. Founded by Narindra Robin in 2020, LANA ANAKA seeks to empower women in Madagascar by providing equal employment opportunities, inclusion, and training, while also promoting children's education and environmental protection. Today, LANA employs 40 full-time artisans, the majority being women, who have mastered these crafts to support their families. Additionally, 66 children are now able to attend school, gaining essential access to education, healthcare, food, and clothing, which are vital for their development.

The 'Le Roseau Raphia' tote bag is a standout piece, crafted entirely by hand from natural raffia by LANA’s artisans. It features leather handles that embody the maison’s craftsmanship and includes a wooden toggle adorned with Longchamp's iconic “Bamboo.” Similarly, hats and key rings from the collection are lovingly handcrafted, adding a touch of individuality to summer wardrobes and creating a light and relaxed style for the contemporary Parisian woman.
