Origin Agritech Joins Forces with 12 Agricultural Leaders

In a significant advancement for agricultural innovation, Origin Agritech Ltd. (NASDAQ: SEED), a prominent player in China's agricultural technology sector, has announced new partnerships with twelve key agricultural companies. This development was revealed during the 'Corn Smart Plant Type Transgenic Breeding' seminar and a field observation event held in Sanya, co-hosted with the esteemed China Agricultural University. The partnerships established during this high-profile event are geared towards enhancing biotechnology services across various areas including the use of transgenic varieties, molecular marker-based variety improvement, gene editing technologies, and applications involving corn mutant libraries.

The seminar saw attendance from some of the industry’s leading experts, including Jingrui Dai, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Yanqiu Zhang, president of the China Seed Association. These collaborations speak to Origin's commitment to pushing the envelope in agricultural biotechnology, underscored by the successful development of their innovative 'smart plant type' corn varieties, showcased during the field observations at the Sanya Nanbin Farm.

Among the key highlights was the introduction of the MIGC 20K (Multi-function Integrated Gene Chip 20K), a revolutionary tool developed by Origin’s Marker Biological Breeding Platform. This sophisticated chip utilizes data from an impressive 40 million SNP sites and 10 million detection data sites, enabling precise identification of transgenic components and robust molecular breeding processes. It stands as a cornerstone in furthering the advancement of agricultural practices, providing vital support for both the protection of variety rights and the enhancement of breeding capabilities.

Weibin Yan, CEO of Origin Agritech, expressed enthusiasm regarding these partnerships, stating, "These agreements represent a pivotal moment in our ongoing mission to drive agricultural biotechnology forward in China. By leveraging our expertise alongside that of our new partners, we aim to solidify our standing in the seed industry while fostering innovations that will significantly benefit farmers across the region. The MIGC 20K platform will be instrumental in propelling these collaborative endeavors and enhancing our breeding efficacy."

Bill Deng, Vice President of Origin Agritech, further commented on the implications of this collective effort, noting, "These agreements will expedite the development of innovative seed varieties, playing a crucial role in modernizing China’s agricultural landscape. The incorporation of our MIGC 20K technology will arm our partners with advanced tools for precise breeding and variety development."

Origin Agritech Limited, established in 1997 and headquartered in the Zhong-Guan-Cun (ZGC) Life Science Park in Beijing, has been a trailblazer within crop seed biotechnologies. Their phytase corn was the first transgenic corn to receive the Bio-Safety Certificate from the Ministry of Agriculture in China, marking a significant milestone in the country’s agricultural biotechnology sector. Over the years, the company has built a robust pipeline of biotechnology seeds, incorporating traits such as glyphosate tolerance and pest resistance.
