Akkodis' Participation in the EU-Funded FEDORA Project



Akkodis, a leading global digital engineering firm and part of the Adecco Group, has officially announced its involvement in the EU-funded FEDORA project. This initiative aims to improve sustainable urban mobility in Europe through innovative traffic management solutions and advanced data integration.

Launched on June 1, 2025, FEDORA stands for the Federation of Network Optimisation Services, Simulation Foresights, and Data Alchemy for Adaptable, Agile, Secure, and Resilient Multimodal Traffic Management. The project is coordinated by ERTICO – ITS Europe and brings together a consortium of key stakeholders aiming to address significant mobility challenges across the continent.

The Need for Improvement in Traffic Management



Current traffic management systems have significant limitations, especially regarding their ability to integrate multi-modal transport needs effectively. Many existing systems fall short in orchestrating data and protocols that reflect real-world traffic complexities. This leads to inefficiencies in managing mobility services, impeding the EU's sustainability goals.

To counteract these challenges, FEDORA plans to develop a federated digital platform designed to enable advanced, real-time sensing and forecasting of transportation supply and demand. By enhancing the efficiency of both people and goods movement, the project aims to contribute to a more sustainable and responsive transport network.

Collaborative Data Space and Advanced Optimization



The FEDORA project will establish a collaborative data space where advanced data processes can thrive, utilizing interconnected services and tools. The initiative also emphasizes developing sophisticated traffic management optimization services along with a multi-modal simulation environment to envision and evaluate future mobility scenarios.

To ensure practicality, the project will conduct six thematic demonstrations in various cities, including Vienna, the Basque Country, Reggio Emilia, Nicosia, Budapest, and Copenhagen. These demonstrations will cater to different urban and rural contexts, accounting for infrastructure maturity levels and the availability of multimodal mobility services, with Vienna slated as the first pilot city starting in the summer of 2026.

Akkodis' Expertise and Contributions



Akkodis is not a stranger to this type of initiative. The company previously coordinated the Horizon 2020-funded MobiDataLab project, which pioneered data sharing strategies among mobility stakeholders in Europe. The cloud-based service platform and methodologies developed in that project will serve as a crucial foundation for the new FEDORA data space, which is expected to further enhance these capabilities.

This new initiative aims to deliver substantial improvements to the transport sector, focusing on creating an efficient multimodal transport system that guarantees seamless mobility for both people and goods. Additionally, FEDORA will tackle data sharing across various transport modes, fostering a robust management framework adaptable to the dynamic requirements of urban and rural areas alike.
