More Perfect Enhances Civics Center Portal to Promote High School Voter Registration Efforts

More Perfect's Support for The Civics Center

In a significant move to bolster democracy among the youth, More Perfect, an American alliance dedicated to enhancing democratic participation, has pledged its substantial support to The Civics Center (TCC). This initiative is set to expand the organization's interactive data portal, a crucial tool designed to inspire students, educators, and community partners to initiate high school voter registration (HSVR) drives throughout the United States.

The Civics Center's Mission

Founded with the aim of making voter registration a fundamental aspect of American high school education, TCC has made impressive strides since its inception. The organization has successfully trained upwards of 3,000 students and educators, leading to the facilitation of over 800 student-led voter registration efforts across 38 states. As a result, communities that implement TCC-supported initiatives experience, on average, a 6% increase in teen voter registration compared to those that do not. This statistic underscores the urgent need for such drives, as approximately four million Americans turn 18 each year and become eligible to vote, yet only about one-third actually participate in elections.

Enhancing the Data Portal

The newly announced investment from More Perfect will significantly enhance the data portal to include essential information such as baseline registration rates for 18-year-olds across all 50 states, as well as county-level data for 20 states. Additionally, it will provide demographic and policy insights, which are essential for motivating students and educators to actively engage in increasing voter registration and participating in civic duties. Laura W. Brill, the CEO and Founder of TCC, emphasizes the critical importance of having access to reliable data in empowering young people to take action.

One particularly poignant example of the power of this portal occurred during a student gathering in Pittsburgh. There, participants were shocked to discover the vast discrepancy between youth and adult voter registration rates, igniting a collaborative effort that resulted in every public high school in the city organizing a TCC-supported registration drive in the fall of 2025. Building on this momentum, the expanded portal is projected to allow TCC to train 50% more students and educators and support approximately 600 HSVR drives during the upcoming election cycle, marking a notable 56% increase from the previous cycle.

Partners in Democracy

John Bridgeland, the Founder and CEO of More Perfect, articulated the significance of supporting youth in their transition into adulthood and the right to vote. He stated, “The Civics Center’s baseline data and mobilization efforts will help ensure that more young Americans actually register.” The partnership between More Perfect and The Civics Center aims to shed light on local voter registration disparities and provide clear pathways for students to engage meaningfully in the democratic process.

This collaboration reflects More Perfect's commitment to reinforcing civic learning and participation from an early age. The expansion of TCC's voter registration portal aligns with More Perfect's broader Democracy Goals, which include promoting Universal Civic Learning and ensuring that elections are trusted and represent diverse perspectives.
