Unlock the Gigamart Experience: A Unique Shopping Adventure
The much-anticipated
Gigamart exhibit, part of the ground-breaking
TOH series, is set to open its doors on July 18, 2026, at the Azabudai Hills Gallery, located in the heart of Tokyo. This innovative pop-up event runs until August 16, inviting visitors to indulge in a unique shopping experience where all products can be 'stolen' without being captured on camera.
Event Highlights
On July 16, just two days prior to the grand opening, a live recording session of the popular TBS Radio show
Noudou took place, featuring TaiTan, the creative director of the
TOH series, alongside guest participant Masayoshi Kotake. This session promises to give fans an insider look at what's in store for the exhibit, airing on July 25 at 2 AM.
As the opening date approaches, the organizers have announced an exciting family-friendly ticket option dubbed the 'Parent-Child Pair Ticket'. This allows one adult and one child under elementary school age to participate together, offering a unique collaborative experience focused on exploration and fun. Families are encouraged to embark on this special journey together this summer.
The Concept Behind Gigamart
Enter the imaginary convenience store
Gigamart, where everyday shopping transforms into an artistic experience. By parodying conventional shopping behaviors, the exhibit seeks to dismantle and reconstruct our perceptions of consumption, products, and advertising. This immersive environment features three distinct areas designed for attendees to explore.
One of the standout attractions of the
Gigamart experience is the unique ‘Steal Area’. This innovative feature allows visitors to engage in a thrilling game where they must grab items from the shop without being detected by specially positioned cameras within a 60-second timeframe. Each visit promises a refreshing blend of fun and strategy in a captivating setting that challenges traditional retail norms.
The
Gigamart exhibit is part of the larger
Conveni Alternative project, which seeks to explore the potential of Japan's culturally significant convenience stores as an evolving intellectual property.
Note: The activities promoted during this exhibit do not endorse or condone actual theft in any way.
