NAMM Foundation Expands Grantmaking Reach

The NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants), along with its philanthropic arm, the NAMM Foundation, has announced a remarkable expansion of its grantmaking program. This initiative is set to enhance music education access across multiple demographics and communities. In a groundbreaking move, the Foundation will allocate over $800,000 in funds to 57 charitable organizations—a significant increase from the 32 organizations supported in the previous year. This year’s grants are aimed at fostering music learning and career opportunities in various communities across 26 states and five countries.

"Our commitment to supporting music making and workforce development is integral to NAMM's mission," stated John Mlynczak, NAMM's president and CEO. With the music industry currently experiencing a revitalization, the focus on encouraging a more diverse pool of music makers has never been more crucial.

Julia Rubio, Executive Director of The NAMM Foundation, emphasized the initiative's philanthropic focus. She stated that this expansion marks a pivotal moment in the Foundation's journey, enhancing its efforts to provide an inclusive music experience. The selected programs not only focus on musical education but also on creating communities that prioritize creativity and mentorship.

A Diverse Array of Beneficiaries

This year’s grant recipients exemplify the diverse nature of the music community. Among them, the David's Harp Foundation has utilized the funds to keep its student studio open, enabling young individuals returning from incarceration to explore their creativity in a safe environment. Brandon Steppe, the Foundation’s Executive Director, expressed gratitude for the partnership, highlighting the program's role as a bridge back to the community through music.

Meanwhile, Young Musicians Unite plans to extend its reach in South Dade with the help of NAMM's grant. CEO Sammy Gonzalez Zeira elaborated on their objectives, asserting that the funding will enhance music instruction for over 3,000 young people, while bolstering confidence and community pride.

The JAMM organization also received support, which enables them to offer diverse musical opportunities such as a Bluegrass Ensemble and Musical Theater productions in their after-school program. Executive Director Meghan Johnson noted the impact of this funding on the creative experiences of youth in their community.

Girls Make Beats, founded by Tiffany Miranda, is another notable beneficiary. This initiative empowers girls from underserved backgrounds through hands-on music education. Miranda stated that the NAMM Foundation’s support ensures the next generation of music producers and audio engineers reflects the rich diversity of contemporary society.

Additionally, The Roots of Music, led by Derrick Tabb, will utilize its grant to cover essential needs for students, from instruments to transportation. Tabb expressed appreciation, stating the funding is crucial to their mission, allowing for comprehensive support to students.

By opening grant applications to a broader array of eligible organizations, the Foundation is empowering a significant number of projects aimed at enhancing music education worldwide. The application process for 2027 Grantmaking will commence in Spring 2026, offering further opportunities for diverse music programs.
