Session 1: Integrated Defense Operations for the Future

Led by Takahito Sasaki, president of AOS Group, the first session emphasized the evolution of defense priorities from hardware performance to integrated operational capabilities termed “integration power.” Sasaki illustrated how modern conflicts span beyond traditional domains into areas such as cyber and cognitive warfare. In response to this complexity, he proposed the AI Defense on IDX framework, advocating for a sovereign data foundation to secure sensitive defense information while enhancing decision-making capacities. This architecture aims to reinforce defense capabilities by transforming military entities into intelligent organizations, utilizing AI as a key decision support tool rather than a replacement for human judgment.

Ken Jimbo, Executive Director of the International Cultural Exchange Foundation, underlined the urgency of embracing defense innovation. Former Ground Self-Defense Force Commander, Yoshikazu Yamane, articulated the essence of military operations as continuous decision-making based on strategic information gathering. He discussed the pivotal role AI could play in accelerating decision-making processes through effective data management, while underscoring the necessity of maintaining human judgment in command decisions and the challenges posed by future warfare technologies.
