United Breast Cancer Foundation Celebrates 25 Years
The United Breast Cancer Foundation (UBCF) has officially marked its quarter-century milestone with the grand opening of its new national headquarters in Jonesboro, Arkansas. This significant event included the much-anticipated Arkansas Mattress & Pink Bag Event®, held from October 23 to 31, 2025.
During this week-long celebration, UBCF offered immense support to nearly 200 individuals affected by breast cancer, distributing over $2.1 million in goods, including therapeutic mattresses, clothing, beauty items, and essential household products. These contributions are part of UBCF’s ongoing mission to provide comfort and dignity for those facing the emotional and financial hardships that accompany a breast cancer diagnosis.
A Joyous Celebration
The atmosphere of the opening week was filled with positivity and hope. One highlight was the Grand Opening Pink Ribbon Ceremony on October 28, which brought together community leaders, UBCF staff, volunteers, and the individuals who benefit from their services. Jonesboro Mayor Harold Copenhaver expressed his heartfelt welcome, emphasizing the importance of UBCF’s presence in the community and the strength it brings to local and national efforts.
Stephanie Mastroianni, President and Executive Director of UBCF, conveyed her gratitude during the ceremony, stating, "I want to thank my team and the entire Jonesboro community for supporting our vision. This headquarters symbolizes not just a new location but a renewed purpose and opportunity to serve our community more effectively."
Impact Stories
The Mattress & Pink Bag Event® served as more than just a distribution point for goods; it was a celebration of resilience and connection among survivors. Attendees shared stories of their journeys, highlighting the emotional impact of the event. Ellen, who made the trip from Dallas, Texas, expressed her gratitude at receiving personalized assistance, stating, "I felt very special and am thankful for the volunteers and sponsors who made this event happen."
Jacqueline, a patient living with metastatic breast cancer, highlighted the joy she felt at the event: "There are few opportunities for true joy during this journey; this experience was incredible."
Arora shared her family’s experience, celebrating her mother’s battle against cancer and the community's warmth and kindness. "The amount of love we received was overwhelming. Thank you to everyone for honoring my mom and all the brave women here today."
A touch of poignancy came from a participant commemorating her one-year anniversary since a mastectomy. She expressed, "This event was a perfect way to celebrate. Everyone was so kind and welcoming; I can't wait to come back as a volunteer."
Community Support
The success of the events relied heavily on community collaboration. UBCF extended its gratitude to local partners, including media organizations and businesses, who played a crucial role in making these celebrations possible.
Among the supporters were KAIT, More Media, and the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce, alongside various local businesses contributing their time, services, and creativity.
As Mayor Copenhaver aptly pointed out, unity and collaboration are essential in changing statistics regarding breast cancer awareness and access to care.
Looking Ahead
With its new national headquarters, UBCF is poised to continue its legacy of compassion for the next 25 years. The organization's commitment is rooted in providing support, resources, and hope to those affected by breast cancer. This not-for-profit, founded in 2000, aims to enhance the lives of breast cancer patients and their families through a variety of services, including education, screening, treatment, and recovery support.
UBCF encourages tax-deductible donations to support its work and accepts contributions in various forms, fostering a community spirit that uplifts individuals battling breast cancer nationwide.
